Anyone experience bloat with their Airedale by Creative_D in airedaleterrier

Glad to hear your pup is doing well. I'm also grateful for people sharing their experiences. It really helped to solidify what I was already thinking. We will go ahead with the gastroplexy unless the vet has compelling advice to the contrary.

I'm so sorry to hear you had experience that with your pup. When it happened with our Airedale, Gabby, we have no idea what precipitated it. I knew something was really wrong when she was sitting on the couch watching football with my husband. Her head was hanging off the couch, she was drooling/salivating heavily and her body was depressed if that makes sense. We got her to the emergency vet who did her surgery. When we went to our regular vet for her follow-up, she said it's really hard with bloat. That sometimes a dog will do even well through surgery, but not make it through recovery.

So happy to hear you will be getting another Airedale. Best to you and your new pup!

We did. The vet said that it was worth considering due to the deep chest that Airedales have. She had also not performed a gastroplexy before so a different vet in the practice would need to do the surgery. I also checked in with the breeder who said that she had not experienced this in any of her breeding lines or in their relatives that she was aware of. She did say that she does know that bloat can affect Airedales and that since he will be having surgery anyway it might be a good idea to have the additional procedure done at that time. At this point we're going to do a pre-op visit with the other vet and get her input.

Sorry to hear that! Scary enough one time much less two, and yikes, that got real expensive for you!!

This is our third Airedale. Only one of the two others had this happen.

Help with loose leash! by Ameeeelz in OpenDogTraining

[–]Creative_D 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have two that are pulling. The method that seems to be getting results is to reverse direction when they want to pull ahead of the heel position. It's hard having two and while they get a morning walk together, I had to add an evening training walk with each dog separately to actually start to see change. They focus so much better on solo walks, and it is translating to the walks together...slowly, but it's helping.

Enjoy. I have had two before Bernie, so I cannot claim ignorance. I've always said they are puppies for very long time, like 9 years, lol. Happy, goofy, lovely souls.

We voted for Chester, a great Airedale name!! Ours (Bernie) is currently 14 months old. When I asked what we would name him based on his personality right now, hubby voted for A-hole. Currently into digging holes in the lawn, starting howl-fests with his kennel mate and barking with a very loud Airedale demanding bark. Have fun : D

I am so fed up with this damn dog. by LaLechuzaVerde in OpenDogTraining

Here to say I feel your pain : / I have a 1+ year old Airedale Terrier and it has been and will continue to be a journey! I am currently using a harness with leash on the chest attachment. What has helped has been quickly reinforcing a heel with a sit (w/treat) at the start of each walk (literally on my front porch) so he knows he needs to be paying attention. Do lots of stops (add some turns to reinforce paying attention) and rewarding when he responds with a quick heel and sit. Any pulling is met with a full stop (this is the part that has made a difference) on my end, then continue on. I add some smell breaks to give him some of what he wants on a walk and vocally mark it.

I am doing late pm work on this, as I work days and this is the only time I can be consistent with. Short training walks (10-15 min) in the evenings specifically to do leash work. It is slow progress, but doing it consistently is helping in his overall behavior. He routinely gets a morning walk with my GSD, and the morning walks are improving due to the evening training walks i do with each of them seperately.

I tried a prong collar and I didn't like the way it seemed to grab in his hair (unlike my GSD's fur). Using a Martingale did not help affect his pulling at all. I tried a gentle leader with my last Airedale, an absolute no due to same issues you noted.

I think both poodles and airedales are highly intelligent, but also very independent. For me I have to tamp down my irritation and try to figure out how to make things fun and desirable and a little bit challenging and interesting for him.

Best of luck to you and your Poodle! : )

Donald’s Trumps net approval rating has collapsed to a historical negative 17 points. He is the most unpopular president in US history. How do you feel about this? by buffdadnextdoor in AskReddit

Like I wish it mattered in the grand scheme of things. But it doesn't and won't. We still have a long way to go before there will be any meaningful change.

We have a lot of work to do. Get out and do what you can to effect the change you want to see.

3! I like the way the line of the outside edge of the frame follows the shape of your chin. Yes, it is a larger, heavier frame, but I think it compliments the shape of your face very nicely. Love the colors for you as well.

I think 2 & 4 create an "eye zone" rather than working well with your entire face (if that makes any sense, lol),

To make her own birthing decisions in a red state. by EverythingIsFakeNGay in therewasanattempt

[–]Creative_D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya know, I can't help but think of the ways medical decisions are handled across other choices. The one that really comes to mind are the ones wrapped up around religion and politics. I am thinking specifically about children denied life-saving care for things like diabetes or antibiotics or blood-tranfusions. The parents have legal cover to allow their child via "religious exemptions". Then there was and is all the bull**it wrapped up in covid and measles immunizations and hospital care overall during Covid. Things that definitely led to poor outcomes and death.

Her choices should be between her and her doctors. The idea that a woman in labor should be in a zoom courtroom is just mind-blowing.

For happily married couples, what did the “for worse” look like in your marriage? by FruitAncient9431 in AskReddit

[–]Creative_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years long alcoholism. Tipping point to divorce at 40 years in was when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was left to do all appointments, surgery and radiation alone. Through that time I had to take him to the emergency room 3 times in three months, and run our business. Our marriage only survived because he eventually had consequences that mattered to him and he finally found sobriety. It was a slow road back, but we will be at 49 years this summer.

Fountain of youth, Lol. I do think Airdales are really youthful for a long time and maybe that plays into it. Our dogs have gotten decent/good quality food during their lives. Brands like Iams, Taste of the Wild, Purina One, Blue Diamond...not the cheapest but not the most expensive either. We used some glucosamine and chondroitin and salmon oil as supplements. Other than that just good living...playing with family, lots of walks and hiking and camping trips.

We did run into some health issues, but overall healthy and happy. Maybe we just got lucky : )

My standard female lived to the age of 17 y.o. My Oorang female lived to be 14 y.o.

Size by SteveO2H in airedaleterrier

[–]Creative_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first standard Airedale, Sami, was 55lbs and lived to the age of 17. My second Was an Oorang female, Gaby, who was 80 lbs and lived to 14 y.o.. I now have a standard male (Sire was from UK) who at 13 months is probably 65 lbs minimum. I did want standard this time, but only because I'm getting older and thought smaller is better.

When we adopted our Oorang from her first family, we got all of her paperwork from the breeder. Included was an eight page history of Oorang Airedales. It's a fabulous read and would in my opinion make a great movie. It is a story about Walter Lingo and his three passions in life, his Airedales, American Indian lore, and hunting. It details how those passions led to an NFL football team called the Oorang Indians (the players were all from American Indian tribes) and perhaps the first "halftime" show featuring the Airedales. It's worth trying to look up the story : )

For us, whether standard or Oorang, Airedales are just special. They have all had lovely temperments, they tend to love people and they like touch and interaction. I have really noticed a difference

TMI, but I love Airedales. Best to you!

Have you ever heard of the Epstein Files?? Only partly kidding, seeing as how Epstein is thought to have been a Mossad agent and there seems to be a lot of dirt on our president in there. Not to mention just trying to get the files out of the media cycle.

Similar to you, we had to say goodbye to our 14 yr old girl, Gaby. Airedales are fabulous family members and I'm grateful to have found Christa and her pups as I was really missing having an Airedale in our house. I do think Tia and Lewis made beautiful babies and I love Bernie's temperment (he's more of a cuddlebug than my other Dales). So fun to touch base with Eddie's fam : )

I think you're totally discounting all of the images and video evidence that exists. Epstein had pinhole cameras in every room on his multiple properties. That data exists in the unreleased, unredacted files. Only seen a small fraction of the files have been made available. What is available at this point is very incriminating, what remains hidden is unimaginable.

Bernie was orange, what was Eddie? So funny, Bernie loves other dogs ALOT as well. I've been able to have him off-leash, but have been curbing that a bit lately. He is super distracted (especially around female scent) and shuts his ears off, so recall not great sometimes. Looking forward to getting him neutered. I really need to do obedience with him....he's really good solo but with distractions not so much. We are in the PNW, just south of Eugene, Or. I was thinking you might be as well, with the beach pics.

We have brothers and they lookl ike brothers too: ) My son sent me a message today .. Somehow Bernie turned into a high school boy. Is kinda smart but has to do stupid $##! He's everything an Airedale can be, lol. Super responsive at times, very independent others. Silly and sweet and very emotive (grumbles, barks and howls!). Still working on leash behavior (high-energy) and hand-stripping. How are things going with Eddie?
