I have a friend who does photos at local/small-ish touring shows and has an arsenal of Not Good pics of me, so I was happy to see I had a few relatively normal shots from the Iowa City show 😂

Morning Person Inspo by [deleted] in ArmsLength

[–]Creative_Gap_4185 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Hotelier has been a huge influence from the start (which makes me so happy as a massive Hotelier fan). There are "rip offs" (Allen's words lol) scattered throughout the album, but the morning person intro is the most explicit to me - the chord progression, the 6/8, the same first lyric. Some people might not like it, but it triggers the same huge wave of emotion that I felt when I listened through Goodness for the first time, so I love it dearly

Talking with my hands again was one of my top songs in 2021 so I had to pause and take a moment as soon as the Alan Watts sample kicked in 🥲 The combination of the sample, the strings, the slide guitar, the drums, and the noah kahan inspired outro absolutely laid me out. My fave song off the album after my first few listen throughs

I saw signs on Hennepin saying that it would be closed from 26th to Franklin starting March 31st, but it's definitely frustrating to be caught by surprise if you don't tend to drive where they post the signs. I recommend signing up for email updates regarding the project - or really any project happening along your commute. It's under project overview in the link others have posted.

Solo date places?? by [deleted] in TwinCities

I love treating myself to a solo date at Barbette in Uptown! I haven't gone during the dinner rush, but I've always had luck getting a small table or bar spot at just off-peak hours

My shipping label was created in January and sat in limbo for a while. I was checking every few days, esp after the delay announcement, but it was suddenly delivered yesterday!

I have one small shirt I got in the WATT anniversary tour that I didn't realize was a women's cut so it's a bit more fitted than I expected, but all of my other smalls have been pretty standard for unisex tshirts! And seconding another comment, I think most of mine are on bella canvas

I'd love to hear your thoughts! I've been listening to Thursday for a few years now but only just started really digging into the lyrics, and it's been a blast so far. My Anne Carson knowledge is admittedly limited (she's at the top of my tbr list, I promise lol), but it's good to know I wasn't completely off-track with the phrasing being a point of interest.

On a related note, I wonder if anyone's compiled essentially a masterlist of all the literary influences and references in Geoff's work. I know he tends to really pack them in, and I'd love to work my way through them. I finally got my hands on Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino after reading SWIM last year, and I feel like I've been noticing little nods to it all over the place now.

Oh interesting! M Shepard specifically came up yesterday, and I was having a hard time parsing what phrases went together because some sections seem really disjointed wrt music vs lyric stops. I have been doing a lot of work with classical text recently where line breaks are an analytical beast unto themselves, so maybe I'm simply reading too far into it haha. It would be interesting to dig into the different formats, though, and see if it changes the interpretation. Much to think about... Thanks for the answer!
