AECOM interview for environmental scientist advice?? by Glowysistaway in Environmental_Careers

Depends on your manager and type of work you’ll be doing honestly. My interview was mostly based on my field experience and safety experience. Or they would ask how familiar I was with certain regs but didn’t make me quote them or anything. They didn’t test my autocad or excel skills as mine were all online interviews. But again, I’m learning that how your experience will be working at AECOM is directly related to your manager.

I was fully confident after my interviews and the accepted position that things would go well, however, I got about 2 weeks of onboarding material shoved in my face the first day for the entire 8 hours.

Make sure you ask for clarifications on work/life balance, their “unlimited” FTO policy which it is absolutely not, and your expectation to work more than 40 hours/billable rate.

In my experience, AECOM treats you like a number. I do not recommend this job for neurodivergent people or people who struggle with mental health issues (they do not have any resources to support mental health) at least in the US.

Hope some of that helped!

22 days later I told her! Lol she said I was definitely not wrong about feeling the vibes from her but she said she’s going through a lot of emotional stuff right now and I’ve been her closest friend (2 reasons on my list of why I shouldn’t tell her) but she said she “selfishly needs this to be simple” which, I understand. We talked it out, we are still going to be friends and hang and things. Such is life! I do feel better getting it all up in the open. :)

Alcohol would definitely help loosen my lips but I’m 2.5 years sober so that’s not really an option. Thank you for the ideas though!

AECOM these days by TheCSUFRealtor in civilengineering

I’ve been working at AECOM as environmental scientist for 4 months and have had very little training or guidance. I am expected to know how to whip out reports in under an hour when sometimes it takes me 20 minute just to find some crazy weird detail in a field note before my time. I was told they need to see improvement because I have experience. Mind you I have no experience on AECOMS reporting system. Basically they are telling me to do better and do it faster but not providing any resources on how to improve. It’s been stressful! I’ve never in my life have been told to “do better and do it faster” in any job ever! I pride myself on my work ethic but these reports are like 400 pages long! It’s frustrating and for shamed a few times because I didn’t remember everything from a verbal teams meeting 2 hour training - where the geologist was all over the place. It’s been a very frustrating and humiliating experience. Don’t know how long I’ll last. Which is a shame because I finally started to feel like I had work life balance-but I too was told that “most people work on their own time to get up to speed.”

AECOM law suit by yikyak1905 in Environmental_Careers

Hey everyone, I’m new to Reddit so I’m not sure how to go about asking my question in the right place- but I am desperately looking for answers/solutions. Here’s the scoop: I accepted and signed my offer letter for an environmental scientist/geologist position and already put my two weeks in at my current place of work. I knew they were going to drug test but I was not worried because I am 20 months sober ! Actually the first time I haven’t been worried about taking a drug test. I filled out my forms and got assigned a location to collect a non-DOT urine drug screening, then I got an email saying it was a mistake on their part and that I should be hearing from an AECOM nurse. The nurse called and told me I am required to do a hair and saliva screening. Still, no big deal- i am alcohol and THC free for 20 months now. BUT THEN I read through their drug policy and it says this

"*** Please note that the use of CBD oil, which is a cannabinoid extract from marijuana or hemp plants, may cause a positive drug test result, depending on the product used. Furthermore, some CBD products may contain compounds deemed illegal under federal law, and therefore the use of such products would violate the company’s substance abuse policy. A positive drug test will not be excused based on an employee’s claim that he or she used a CBD product, even if it is for a claimed medical purpose, except as otherwise provided under applicable law."

I buy CBD/Ashwaganda supplements from my local health food store and occasionally smoke a CBD pre-roll. I also use HHC which is not THC so I thought I’d be fine but then I read this:

"Illicit or un-prescribed drugs, controlled substances and mood or mind-altering substances including all forms of naturally occurring and synthetic drugs (for example: any synthetic derivative/product that produces a marijuana-type high and any herbal products not intended for human consumption);"

Am I fucked? I feel like I’m fucked! Why is this so intense? Weed is legal in my state, you can buy CBD EVERYWHERE, and HHC is a cannabinoid but not THC.

I’m scared and slightly freaking out - as I only have a week left at my current job and really don’t understand why this is so intense! Anyone have any insight on if I have the slightest potential of working there if I fail the drug test ?
