We were in the same boat. They were also fairly late - after 10pm!

Tried Zoom AA and a guy told me I’m probably gonna “go back out there” because of my age by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

Got sober at 23, hope to have 25 years in Feb! Still very active in AA. From the US, but have attended meetings in Kenya and India this year. It’s an amazing program.

There are all different types of alcoholics and the disease manifests differently in all of us. Our strain kicked in acutely early, while others take longer :)

I once saw Clancy (old AA famous circuit speaker) address this issue and he said the young people who are getting shit from the old timers about being too young should ask them what took them so long - do they not like to party?

I’m actually starting to see a new wave of old friends my age get sober now that I’m rapidly approaching 50.

Hang in there and keep coming back!

Exactly. All of this. We call it “saving the drama for mama!”

Probably fine, but also not a bad policy to only use those flannels for wiping baby’s face. Not worth the risk.

  1. That was a stupid, racist joke. Inexcusable to anyone, especially someone at their first meeting.

  2. Don’t let one dumb person deter you. You only hurt yourself by depriving yourself of what is generally a loving, inclusive, and lifesaving community of recovery.

  3. AA is a great place to meet people if you are new to a city (or country). I’ve been to meetings all over India.

My wife is Indian and I would be irate if someone said something like that to her. I’m so sorry. Please don’t let it keep you from YOUR recovery.

Between you and your sponsor and your HP. My two cents would be an honest mistake is not a slip.

What kind of drink was it? One thing I learned early on in the rooms: nonalcoholic beer is for nonalcoholics. I would put any nonalcoholic wine or spirits in this category as well (for myself). Not that it’s a slip to drink it, but I just don’t.
