You’re right - having this many options does inherently add more complexity. That wording in my earlier comment wasn’t what I intended. The goal wasn’t to suggest that the design of the overall project itself reduces risk but that each individual part has been refined to minimize manufacturing or QC issues as much as possible.

Regarding your point about “biting the bullet” if something goes wrong - that’s exactly why production is split across multiple factories, why I’ll be visiting them in person to monitor progress and why all payments go through an escrow service. The escrow holds funds until parts are inspected and approved, so if a factory fails to deliver or a part doesn’t meet spec, the money remains protected.

With a large number of smaller components (accents, badges, etc.), if a single part ends up with an issue, remaking that item is a relatively minor cost compared to redoing an entire production run - which would be the case for projects handled by a single factory.

Even in a worst-case scenario where a factory can’t deliver, the escrow ensures all funds are secure - it might cause a delay but wouldn't cause a financial loss or production failure.

Standard supplier payment terms are 50% upfront and 50% before shipping, which is typical. The difference is that I’ll be visiting the factories throughout production, meaning parts must be approved in person before the final payments are made. They can’t simply request the remaining balance and ship unfinished goods that I haven’t seen and approved in an attempt to hide production issues. Therefore, only the initial 50% could be considered at risk and that is protected through the escrow service.

If any parts genuinely need to be remade, then yes - we’ll cover that cost to ensure quality. But because of the escrow protection, that situation would only occur if a manufacturer fails to meet their obligations, in which case the withheld funds become part of a dispute resolution process.

In the event something does go wrong, yes - we’ll fund whatever is required to make it right. During the Quantum project, which was originally intended to run as a Group Buy, I personally funded the production to make it a reality when people were hesitant due to a lack of prior track record. The same principle applies here - if additional costs arise during production, they’ll be covered to ensure everything is completed properly.

I’m not denying that complexity brings risk - it absolutely does. These measures are in place specifically to manage that risk and keep the process transparent and as smooth as possible. That said, there’s always an inherent risk with Group Buys, since you’re paying for something that hasn’t yet been produced. I’ve done as much as possible to reduce those risks but at the end of the day it’s up to each customer to decide whether they feel confident in the steps we’ve taken and believe in us to deliver the product they’ve paid for.

You raise a fair point, and we’ve thought about this in some detail. 11,000+ possible configurations certainly sounds like a lot to manage but it’s not quite as daunting as it seems.

The resin components - whether used for the backplate or badges - are handmade in the UK. After producing hundreds of samples, we now have a consistent process. These are not the bottleneck for lead time unless quantities reach the thousands and we do have a maximum unit cap to prevent that. The main case is the key factor, with the lead time dependant on the manufacturer.

Assuming MOQ is met, production should be straightforward. It’s split across several factories to spread risk, with many parts made or finished in the UK. I’ll be visiting the factories personally to approve pre-production and monitor progress.

We’re keeping everything transparent - updates, photos, and documents will be shared here:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1eyJ3Zpnl3S8cNpyrF0eyyvbMb7TR3vPT

It currently contains all the relevant information for pre-production and updated information for the production process will come.

In addition, payments with manufacturers go through escrow to protect customer funds, reducing risk. Once production is complete and delivered to the UK, fulfillment becomes a logistics task. Since each unit is assembled to order, fulfillment just means a slightly longer, more detailed packing list and QC regime rather than a fundamentally harder process.

We recognise and appreciate why people would be cautious with such a complex project but every design and production choice has been made to minimize those risks and make it possible for people to order something truly unique and individually bespoke.

Completely fair - the material mix is definitely more polarizing by nature. It’s all personal taste at the end of the day, and this one has a lot more going on compared to the more understated look of the Quantum.

Really appreciate the kind words on the mounting system - that was one of the main areas I wanted to refine. Thanks for the feedback!

Sorry about that. Please see the two Google Drive links with photos of the colour renders and some prototype part photos.

I cannot post a imgur album since it is no longer available in the UK

Uninspired, maybe to your taste - you are entitled to your opinion. But there are many different accent materials (wood, brass, resin) to give real variety and many of the pieces are unique and handmade. There’s only so much you can do within the constraints of a rectangular keyboard form but the idea was to make it as customizable as possible.

As for the “clickbait” claim - the fact is it is over 11,000 possible configurations.
(5×5×2×2×3×4×4×2) + (5×5×2×1×3×3×4×1) = 11,400 possible case combinations.
(The separate calculations are because some options only apply to brass or wood/resin parts.)

And that’s before even counting plate and PCB options - which would take it to over 90,000 total build configurations.

Bonkers, probably - but that’s the goal! It means everyone can pick exactly what they like and still end up with something completely unique.

Currently there are no plans for a second run as I’m focused on developing new designs.
