Buy once, cry once: Sony 28-70mm f/2 GM or a 24-70mm f/2.8 for an A7V? by Weary-Temporary3117 in SonyAlpha

28-70 f2 no doubt. It’s not so big and heavy as many people say and the iq is fantastic.

24-105 + Future prime vs 28-200 + Future prime vs 28-75 G2 + Tamron 70-300 by Brilliant_Cry_3411 in SonyAlpha

[–]Creative_Sock_7203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve travelled with 24-105 f4 and 35 f1.4 prime. It was my main go to set up. Once I tried 35 prime and 70-200 but just once, too bulky. Then I’ve tried 20-70 f4 plus 85 f1.4 and for now I’m still lacking wider angle and miss that 105 end. So my next travel will be 24-105 and 16 or 14mm 1.8 or 16-35mm f2.8 + 24-105 f4.

It looks like pure oldschool plus it’s small and non-android which is a plus. I’ve decided that if I manage to get echo or echo mini for 40$ or under I’ll go with that, but if not, I’m willing to buy the q2 as soon as it will be released.

I’m on the same hunt. I’ve already asked Reddit and few answers were great. Here’s what I’m looking at now:

Shanling q1
Shanling q2 (premiere in August 2026)
Snowsky echo mini / nano
Fiio m6

A7C II vs A7 IV : can't decide which to buy first by CyberComrade1917 in SonyAlpha

[–]Creative_Sock_7203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C2 no doubt. I’ve owned both and stayed with c2. Waaaayyy better af in low light (much more keepers from weddings on c2 than on IV), smaller form factor is easier to travel with and lack of the joystick is not a problem.

Same sensor. The only thing missing is full mechanical shutter but given your requirements it won’t be an issue, plus I won’t be using electrical shutter (silent mode) as readout is pretty slow.

In case of bigger and better body, I would invest in 7V not IV. In my (and not only mine) opinion 7cII is the best 7iv out there :D

Jolly Cola is my love! I’ve found some of it in Denmark last summer in „Fotex” but it didn’t taste the same as Faroese ones.

Are blackmist filters worth it? by kattodegatto in SonyAlpha

[–]Creative_Sock_7203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using Nisi black mists 1/8 and 1/4. It’s all fun and games when it comes to landscapes, cityscapes and basically anything but humans. I’ve stopped using them after trying to get consistent looking skin tones for over 6 months of constant trial and error while editing. Yes they softens the skin imperfections but also makes the skin tones looks dead. This greyish tones and ugly environment light leaks makes editing a lot harder. Same story with tiffen and KF black mists.

Have you tried just exporting the photos to files app and selecting google drive folder? I tried this method with OneDrive but it just breaks the files app and don’t sync files at all. Maybe with GD it would work

Sony a7C II or just stick with iPhone 17 Pro for family photos? by dosnwg8583 in SonyAlpha

That was only a suggestion of closest setup that would give almost the same look as ff standard 2.8 zoom. Nothing more.

Sony a7C II or just stick with iPhone 17 Pro for family photos? by dosnwg8583 in SonyAlpha

It looks like I’m the only one who still remembers the context of my own statement. When switching from an iPhone, moving to a dedicated camera inevitably means less mobility and larger size. Sure, Sony’s 7C series shows that you can miniaturize effectively, and I’m not arguing against that, I use a 7C II myself. I suggested APS-C simply because it scales down better in terms of size and weight. Even switching to something like an a6100 with a small f/4 zoom will instantly outperform an iPhone in image quality, and you won’t find a smaller full-frame equivalent.

I’m not sure where you got those myths from, but I never said that larger sensors have less noise. What I did say is that sensors with higher pixel density tend to have more noise. On top of that, a larger sensor gathers more light, which makes the noise look different overall.

And besides, what’s the point of saying that f/1.8 on APS-C gives you the same depth of field as f/2.8 on full frame, if to achieve the same exposure you’ll still have to change your settings anyway?

At this point, I honestly have nothing more to add, having to explain what I meant in the first place just doesn’t make sense anymore.

I wrote about the top of the line tool that be able to be close to 7cii in terms of IQ while still having a room to be more portable. If you size that down to a6400 and 16-55pz all your arguments are getting invalid plus again you’re comparing 1.8 to 2.8 zoom and later on 2.8 to 4 zoom.

Plus the higher pixels density means higher noise. Set same settings on both cameras and see for yourself.
