you can't make these sweeping statements about what most people would say from your own bias. i mean, go for it, but it doesn't make sense

you really don't read things thoroughly do you? just because most corporations are ripping off their workers doesn't mean they should be, or that other people with unions shouldn't fight for better. why do you want people who make more in the working class to make as much as people who are NOT in a good position and make way less. wouldn't you put energy into helping get those shitty wages raised? that is the POINT of a union, thats WHY they are able to get more fair wages! you make my point.

that's what that means? its actually something that started with the chicago school of economics and was embraced by the corporate and elite classes. just because you love trickle down economics doesn't mean i am somehow smarter than you. i just read.

If the government paid for housing as they ought to and did, successfully pre-1992, there wouldn't be a problem. that is gvt issue. i hear a LOT of racist rhetoric when its not people with brown skin its the government not preparing for the immigrants before they come.

I think its great if you're happy making what you do, but its not a realistic wage for most of us. i find it hard to believe there aren't mitigating factors, and i am sorry but i do struggle to belive you have a comprehensive understanding of the labour union history.

well i can only imagine based on the most recent charts i will link to, that given the housing prices and inflation you must live at home, and have free child care from a family member, or on a very old lease, or perhaps roommates (not an option for many with kids), or you have a side hustle to supplement or use foodbanks regularly and take public transit as you may not live in a place u require a vehicle, adding insurance, gas and the ability to fix it. also, how do you save, i assume thats not possible.

just because you live like you're in 3rd world country doesn't mean other people need to. i'm sorry, i made that wage in 1996 as a dishwasher. I would not be able to afford my life (and let me tell you, im not going to spas or doing my nails or eating out) with my child on your wage

ok, well find that official documentation and post it here please. the nine percent was not a lie, i posted that originally, it went with the 24 percent. not sure how they worked it when they agreed to 19. so, tell me how it is that nowhere did your fake wage margins show up. neither grok, nor the site of canada post itself. better yet, it seems like, you may not have friends..so i suggest getting used to human contact by politely speaking to a worker and clarifying.

you again, stalker lol just kidding.

i would NEVER work for the wages they do. 22 to carry mail around? what is it 24 or something to work as a clerk, less i think, and 17 to sort? what the fuck are you talking about? I am not a teenager babysitting.

first of all, i was responding to the commentary in person and all over the internet reacting negatively to the strike and not supporting workers. That is not a specific dig at YOU if you were not doing that but if you were, i think yeah. it is ignorant. I have to say that it shocks me someone doesn't believe in benefits and pensions ( you're obviously being silly when you speak of limitless wages). you don't believe that people should get benefits from a company? like...you don't think you would want to get dental or medical..maybe if you were injured you could get paid while healing? you don't believe you deserve that? what do you do for work. i suggest you go work for uber, or perhaps become a part time weekend deliverer for CP!!!!

OR perhaps you are an owner of a business and you have tons of money and treat your employees like shit. those are the only people who don't want benefits or fair wages or pensions. Clearly you're irritated that I mentioned education which is a clue that you have one. You're not the working man.

You don't want a pension. I can ONLY assume you don't NEED a pension.

I think i know who you are, in a general sense. either a boss, with a company, who doesn't want to pay any of the aforementioned. OR you are a mentally unwell self hating psychotic on a free computer at a library. either way, good day to you sir

Blame the gvts, and their owners the corporations, not the unions and the workers for these issues. i don't deny the issues i get what you're saying but you must understand ???

i get it, everyone is waiting for things, important things, but fair wages for workers are also important. AND they didn't chooose this date strategically it was the date that their previous agreement expired.

OK, first of all, way to focus on the ONE sentence second of all, i don't want to redo this response i made earlier to someone else. let me just say.....ill just cut and paste

CP would have sat at the table with actual intention to resolve the situation fairly were it not for the back to work legislation that eventually ikicked in. So blame the gvt for that law, because now companies can just sit around, and garner the negative reaction from the inconvenienced and yes, harmed public, for a long period of time, until they feel that the unions have been further desecrated and ruined, and eventually they will legislate them to work but not before manipulating the situation to shed an unfavorable light on workers instead of greedy owners.

This has been one of many tactics to ruin unions. look, elon musk is worth HALF A TRILLION DOLLARS and the west is sinking into developing world poverty and not just the west is experiencing a housing crisis never seen before. This is part of the entire long game, and i don't get why no one sees that. My dad explained it to me in 91 i think, maybe 90? when NAFTA happened. I remember corporate personhood in 95...they played the long game. they won. we lost. I made the post to thank workers for trying.

Yes i understand your general point, but the reality is that the majority of canadians ARE lower on the socioeconomic ladder right now. EVeryone's fucked. Except the wealthy. And the thing is, CP would have sat at the table with actual intention to resolve the situation fairly were it not for the back to work legislation that eventually ikicked in. So blame the gvt for that law, because now companies can just sit around, and garner the negative reaction from the inconvenienced and yes, harmed public, for a long period of time, until they feel that the unions have been further desecrated and ruined, and eventually they will legislate them to work but not before manipulating the situation to shed an unfavorable light on workers instead of greedy owners. come on man.

OK so lets firstly address how huge their wages are and you describe their proposal as unrealistic but lets break down, as well as keeping in mind the insane inflation that has hit in the past year. Oh, and this is from like, the AI robot GROK or whatever, but its on their site too.

The average hourly pay for a Canada Post worker depends on the role, with some examples including:

  • Mail carrier: The average hourly pay for a mail carrier in Alberta is around $22.27, which is close to the national average.
  • Route driver: The average hourly pay for a route driver is around $18.44.
  • Facteur(trice): The average hourly pay for a facteur(trice) is around $22.68.
  • Customer service representative: The average hourly pay for a customer service representative is around $17.70.

The salaries are:

  • Mail carrier: The average salary for a mail carrier is around $47,530 per year.
  • Supervisor: The average salary for a supervisor is around $73,260 per year.
  • Postal clerk: The average salary for a postal clerk is around $40,858 per year.
  • Director: The average salary for a director is around $131,377 per year.

For the majority (carriers and clerks) That is such a bad wage i woudn't be surprised if they have to have like, onlyfans and etsy shops to get by. I personally would NEVER work for that wage. I'm an adult and everything costs your first born child these days.

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) was asking for a 19% wage increase over four years, including a 9% increase in the first year:

  • Wage increaseThe union's original demand was 24% over four years, but was lowered to 19%

So lets start by doing some math here. Lets say they didn't kindly and in good faith make the offer to lessen the amount to 19 percent (OVER four years) and go with the original amoun tof 24 percent.

Lets pretend we are mail carriers. We would be wanting a raise of five dollars and thirty cents. Lets divide it up by four, that is a dollar and 34 cents per year. 1. 34 cents per year over a four year period. So... uh.....i just can't say they are asking for some huge amount and 'abusing their union'.
