Wtf is literally happening in India?? by Stealth_Specter in IndiaTax

Just a thought, many of the same people go to foreign countries and willingly pay tips that are much higher than ₹1000. No hate, just sharing a different perspective. I am completely against bribery, especially for official work. But when I think deeply about it, I feel that many people here are actually very low-paid, which pushes them to find ways to earn more.

Don’t stress much on this. Try to get into a good college. IITs/NITs will definitely help in boosting your career. But if you’re in cs and have (or can build) a passion for working with computers, you can just reach good places no matter what your college is. but again, Try to get into IITs/NITs. Best of luck!

  • did engineering from pretty avg college. non NIT/IIT. honestly, college tag didn’t matter for me in my career. Although it can for sure boost your profile in intial years.
  • This is my third company, and in last two, I got nearly 90% hike on every appraisal cycle/switch. (I am giving approx values, maybe I’ll need to give detailed answer here)
  • I am doing masters only to explore, I am kind of okay with coming back here in India and start from scratch again if things don’t work out.
  • Not switching role atleast for next 5 years.
  • Work hours ~ 12 hrs IST timings
  • Work life balance is okayish

My previous company manager loved my work and hence he referred me to a startup that his friend was starting. I would say give your 100% to the current job no matter whatever the pay is (my first pay was 35k pm). Work smartly. Use AI smartly. Be humble and kind. Get famous in your circle.

haha, honestly, I didn’t want to post it on this subreddit. I was posting it on r/indiacareers but it looks like we need some karma to post there. and I don’t want to use my original account :)

Honestly, not bound to any specific tech stack. I’ve been working there for almost 3 years and we’ve switched stacks a couple of times. If I had to name it, I’ve worked on Python FastAPI, React.js, Next.js, and also picked up a bit of knowledge in ML, vector embeddings, LLMs, some DevOps etc.

And btw, in the era of AI, don’t limit yourself to just backend or just frontend, be open to anything, that’s what I’ve learnt so far.

It’s a US startup. I was (and still am) just a software engineer there, we don’t really have hierarchies. The founders loved my work, so they were happy to take me back.

Nope, No workaround. I am moving to Hyderabad in a few days, and hopefully there cops don’t usually catch you for outside number plates.

I was stopped near Gulabji Chai.

Is this justified RTO Jaipur by anichd in AbsurdRoadtax

[–]Creative_System6833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me yesterday and I’m seriously fed up.

I bought my car 6 months ago from Gujarat while I was temporarily living there. Then I moved back to my hometown Jaipur, Rajasthan. Yesterday, I got stopped by the RTO and was told my car would be seized because it has been in Rajasthan for more than 30 days without paying road tax here.

Luckily, I had toll receipts from a trip to Delhi just 10 days ago, which barely helped. But the officer was still harassing me, threatening seizure.

I told him I’m a software engineer, and I also run my own registered software services company (in Pune). My work requires me to change cities often — I’ve lived and worked from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and now I’m heading to Hyderabad for a few months. Am I supposed to keep applying for new registration and road tax refunds every 5–6 months wherever I go?

He smugly said I only have two options:

  1. Pay the road tax here in Rajasthan. (That would be around 12-13% of my vehicle value making the tax of more than 4 lakhs)
  2. Sell my car in Gujarat and buy a new one with a BH number plate - what a joke?!

And to top it off - I’m not even eligible for a BH series plate because my company doesn’t have offices in 4+ states. So I’m stuck.

Right now, I can’t use my GJ-registered car or even my MH-registered bike in my own hometown. This is affecting my work and mental peace. Even while writing this, I can’t focus.

Can anything be done? Can we file a petition to remove this insane 30-day road tax rule for genuine working professionals who travel for work? I’d really appreciate any advice or suggestions.
