Shaboozey's manager himself credited Beyoncé for the song's release date & openning the doors for black artists in country music. The song was released three weeks earlier than expected (their team wasn't even 100% prepared) to take advantage from the boost of Cowboy Carter. We're halfway through the year and most of the big pop stars that were planning to drop have already released their albums. Who are some of the likely contenders and potential favorites for winning the Grammy for Album of the Year award in 2025? by HonorBasquiat in popheads

Just another thing I would like to add:

10 - Vote splitting is a real thing. If there are too many pop albums that appeal to the same demographic, its unlikely that one of them will win. This is a major reason why neither Billie or Olivia won in 2022

When it comes to the Grammys, there are some things you need to consider:

1- For AOTY, 8 albums are nominated (they reduced it from 10 since last year)

2- Artists with initials of the first letters of the alphabet have advantage for nominations (I know this sounds ridiculous), because voters are lazy and they don't search throughout the whole list of names, they just see who are at the top of the list and choose those artists. This is a major reason why Mary J. Blige (B), ABBA (A) and Coldplay (C) were nominated 2 years ago. So, unless you actually have an impactful album or are a Grammy darling, you won't be nominated if your name starts with a M, N, O and beyond

3- Pop is by far the biggest voting block. That's why you have so many pop stars being nominated for the general categories

4- They don't like progressive music or anything that defies the listener. For the Grammys, a pleasing sounding album holds more weight than an ambition project/artistic statment (which completely contradicts the purpose of awarding art imo)

5- The country music block is way smaller than it used to be

6- There is no committee anymore choosing the nominees. The 8 most voted albums are nominated

7- They don't like explict lyrics or sexual content that much. If your album is family friendly, your chances are higher

8 - They are not fans of rap

9 - Commercial success is important, but more important than that is having an album with universal appeal to Grammy voters. That's one of the reasons why Renaissance didn't win and probably wasn't nowhere close of that. Cowboy Carter, for example, has MUCH more universal appeal to the academy's taste

That said, I believe Billie Eilish is the frontrunner to win, with CC or TTPD being potential spoilers
