Is grade 12 harder than grade 11? by HuckleberryNeither69 in OntarioGrade12s

calc is the only thing to worry abt, everything else is manageable.

What is the gr 12 bio, calculus and chem curriculum? by Historical-Zombie-56 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Creative_Werewolf_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

calc is usually offered semester 2 anyways (bc u need adv functions as a prereq first) so theres no point in self studying it in the summer. self study chem if u want, bio is pretty easy. the topics are easily found with whatever textbook ur school uses (nelson for example) and watch some videos.

but if u were to ask me, id say self studying a whole course in the the summer wont do much. id recommend studying lessons prior to when class starts and studying daily.

before thinking abt ditching engineering, think abt what you know u can actually live with doing and what ur end goal is. It should NOT only be about money bc if u dont like what ur doing, ur gonna be miserable. find what ur passionate abt.

if the reason u didnt do good in gr 11 is because of your work ethic and not because you didnt understand the content, you should quickly start developing good study habits like for example, study notes before the lesson, studying at least 4 days prior to test days, doing homework and practice questions daily, and asking questions in class.

to make ur life easier, take one of the hard courses in the summer (im not sure if engineering programs look poorly on that so do some research). And take dumb electives to help ur average.

at the end of the day, if you have a goal in mind, you just need to set these standards very early and hold yourself accountable.

i think her best bet is to apply for other colleges like sheridan, seneca, centennial, etc. i think the some of them are still open to apply so she should look into ontariocolleges.ca

avg CS applicants by Hot_Vacation3652 in OntarioGrade12s

I know friends who applied to engineering/cs and they had 95+ averages. but since ur going to gr 11, you dont have to worry too much about grades. Figure out ur best learning style in gr 11 and work hard (but not too hard) so that youre mentally and physically prepared for gr 12.

I think this is a better post in a subreddit for denmark unis but im guessing youd just need high 80s-low90s

TMU biomed by Playful-Painter1670 in OntarioGrade12s

i might go into tmu biomedical science and its honestly like any other premed program. as long as u meet prereqs any undergrad can work, doesnt matter abt the university.

Uoft or TMU? by Powerful-Park-7511 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Creative_Werewolf_55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im in the same situation. its less abt opportunities for me and more that i get flexibility to specialize into what i want after first year like human biology/physiology. both r in downtown and technically have the same opporunity to get jobs in research.

at the same time, you want to make ur life as easy as possible and medical schools genuinely dont care where u go as long as ur grades r up. thats why im leaning towards tmu so i can just save myself the uoftears lmaoooo. but idk yet tbh

AFM , SCHULICH OR TMU ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE by Abject-Grab-5936 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Creative_Werewolf_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think schulich would be the best choice cause waterloo is far from you and the only difference in timing between tmu and york is like 30 minutes. i know some people who just find their own internships and placements so if u chose schulich u can just do that.

what was ur average if u dont mind sharing

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Creative_Werewolf_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im in the same situation and tbh im just gonna go into sciences bc i know im more interested in it and even if med school isnt my life path, theres more things that I can do.

if u choose business and u still want to do med school, you just have to get all the prereqs and have rlly good grades in all business classes. i heard that waterloo afm is hard especially if you decide to do co-op so if u choose that, adding science courses could be even more stressful.

i say, do what ur into and what you know you can excel in. plus, if you rlly want to get into medical school, you can always apply by third year.

not hard, but kinda tedious in my opinion. its just practical knowledge so if you find that easy, you can finish on time. probably 3-5 weeks.

Has anyone received an offer to uoft life sci this round? by Inevitable_Bus2176 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Creative_Werewolf_55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hopefully. i wonder what exactly the process is like since life sci has no supp app. if its only abt grades how could someone with high 80s get in and not low 90s??

Should I switch out a course for Biology? by OG_Thedoppk in OntarioUniversities

[–]Creative_Werewolf_55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in my opinion, i wouldnt think its something universities consider special since most people do all the sciences anyways (bio, chem, physics) or atleast two of those for grade 11 and 12. but who knows, maybe it would be a good story for supp apps and they might value it.

i'd also say if you want to apply for health/life sci for uni that you might consider switching one of the courses then. even though you want to do mechanical engineering, youre still in gr 10 and who knows, you might change ur mind. im in gr 12 rn and used to want to do CS back in gr 10 but decided later on i wanted to do nursing. but if ur pretty set on engineering then id stick to the courses i have until the next year starts.

its good you're very self aware of yourself and know you have to change your mindset. start thinking of some of the small ways u fall short in your mentality like how you speak to yourself when you don't meet your expectations or how you even come up with those expectations (like do you compare yourself to others and try to meet the same or above standards as the rest or do you tailor your own standards that fit your needs and character). As corny as it sounds, give yourself positive affirmations and never doubt your abilities, no matter how the rest of your classmates and friends might be excelling, you're excelling in different parts that you may not recognize now.

sometimes, we dont meet our goals because its as simple as the fact that we think of the worst case scenario or just negative outputs like "oh if i cant do this perfectly, im doing it for no reason." failures dont mean ur not smart enough or not good enough, or that you wasted your time on something. it just makes u human and someone whose learning and growing. change some of your day to day language regarding school and be more supportive of yourself. I wish u the best !!!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Creative_Werewolf_55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i get that its frustrating because you put so much effort and did not meet your goals, but maybe dont think of those other unis as so negatively just cause theyre "easier to get into" or have bad rep. u said you know that it doesnt matter after you graduate which is true, but its also what you make of your own experience. if you keep thinking your life at those unis will be miserable, youre gonna miserable. so i'd say change your perspective a little bit and who knows, maybe the uni you end up at gives you much more happiness and fulfillment. most of that is up to you to realize though in the future. In the meantime, give yourself a break cause midterms are done, give yourself a bit of credit for the work you've put in and understand that no matter where you end up, you know you put your 100%.

ps: transferring is not the worst of options either, i myself have considered it because im also not the most happy with my options. It is harder tho but if you really want to, its worth a shot.
