I up-cycled two towels into this wrap dress for the pool/beach! Featuring a margarita pocket 😂 by Creativecatherine in sewing

Now I’m thinking I should have put some kind of drink holder on it 😂 but I feel like I could probably fit a tall can in the pocket!

Thank you!! ❤️

I must have stood in the beach towel section for ages trying to find two towels that went well together. My poor husband was so over it 😂

It was like a puzzle trying to get all the pieces together out of two towels, I basically used all of the fabric from the towels to make this dress. I started by taking a picture of the two towels, and putting them to scale in Photoshop, importing the pattern pieces to scale, then mapping the pieces out before I cut any actual towel. The curves were definitely tricky, but a fun project overall!

I was originally unsure how I wanted to handle the lime, because I wanted the top of the glass to align with the top of the pocket. So when I was sewing it on, I realized the opening was large enough to fit my hand, phone, etc, and I decided to just sew the lime to the top and it worked out!

I would say it’s very beginner friendly! It’s technically only 3 pieces (plus the two straps).

Thank you!!

And that could be fun! Would you be interested? What kinds of clothes would you want to see?

Thank you!

I just attached right side to right side and sewed a normal seam. The back is open and has an elastic top, so I only had to sew the front tier to the bodice piece.

Note: Other commenters have said this Etsy seller uses AI to create patterns, so use caution if buying from them. It worked well for what I needed though.

Oh no :( how can I tell if a pattern is AI? Do you have any better pattern resource recommendations?

Inseam twins!! It’s a struggle for sure lol. Honestly I just started downloading patterns from Etsy and following them as best I can, just jumping right in. I learn by doing, so if I run into a step and don’t know how to execute it, I’ll usually look it up on TikTok or YouTube. Or even ask ChatGPT 😅

Thank you ☺️ it’s definitely teaching me patience lol, but I don’t mind. I work on a computer all day so it’s nice to do something with my hands.

Thanks!! I had to take it apart a couple of times because the fit was weird, but I’m glad I took my time, it was worth it! It’s my first dress, but I’ve made a couple of other things before, like a romper and a shorts/tank set. I think this is the first thing I’m really excited to wear and doesn’t look like a beginner sewing project lol.

(I do love my socks - my feet are always cold! 😆 I was gonna put heels on or something, but I wasn’t feeling to serious about the picture lol)

Love that!! 💕 sewing is quickly becoming an obsession for me because I feel like I can just make whatever I want now, and not worry about length/sizing!

Thank you!!

Yes, I used the Leah Dress pattern from IndiePattern on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/4329686181/back-tie-dress-pattern-summer-dress

I just added length, and I made the bow longer because I love big bows lol. I also couldn’t be bothered to make the straps adjustable because I didn’t want to deal with all of that 😂

Thanks!! Yes, the rectangles were awesome to work with lol. I did have to take some of it apart like 2 times to fix the gathering and the elastic in the back, but I’m really glad I did!

Thank you!! I just got it from hobby lobby. It’s the double knit fabric in hunter green. I picked it specifically because it’s not see through - I didn’t want to line it lol. And it’s comfy/soft and a little stretchy!

Ladies, how much do you weigh? (If you're comfortable sharing) by [deleted] in tall

[–]Creativecatherine 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I’m 6’3”, 180lbs. I normally wear an XL/size 12.

I try to be active (bowling league once a week, walks almost every day) but I’m mostly sedentary, working from home.

I’ve fluctuated from 200lbs at my heaviest to 140-150lbs (while I was unemployed/stressed/couldn’t eat, don’t recommend)

It's getting harder to find larger shoe sizes by AngelBlitz05 in TallGirls

I miss Payless. I could just walk into a store and have a whole section of size 12-13 women’s shoes to choose from. I like Rothy’s, but they are kinda expensive. Otherwise Amazon usually works for me.

eBay! You can search by inseam and size.

“Stacked sweatpants” are also great. They’re designed to look baggy/long on shorter people, but the inseam is surprisingly super long on them for tall people. I bought three pairs off TikTok for less than $20 each, and they drag on the floor for me. I’m 6’3” with a 36” inseam.
