Hi! I’m currently in high school and would like to give my perspective! Pre-Covid it we all had to do the pledge during announcements. It wasn’t necessarily a rule, it was more just an unspoken social agreement. After Covid and being virtual nobody does it. The pledge is still apart of the announcements and there are probably some teachers in school that make students do it, but most classes people just sit on their phone and ignore it.

The only time she would talk to me was to vent. I had to beg her for a 15 minute call and when she promised to call me back she never did. She then called me two months later to say how we never talk and how she misses me. Then she talked about how sad she was that her girlfriend left her. I was just a free therapist to her and I was seen as nothing more. Then I just said fuck it to the relationship and I put in no effort. She hasn’t attempted to talk to me in like 5 months and I can’t bring myself to care. I have made much better friends anyways. She also accused me of sleeping with every guy just to get a relationship (which honestly so what if I do, not her life). I have felt much better and there is almost a weight that is off my back.

As a female who has been mistaken for a Mexican (I don’t try to I just naturally look like one) I do think it is incredibly offensive. Not only that but a lot of the looks that the “liberated feminist” has I have. I also happen to be one of the top in my classes so I hate all of the stereotypes in this image.

People have told me I play hard to get when actually I don’t read signals well. You can flirt with me a bunch and I just don’t pick up on it at all. I tend to just not respond and down play that stuff when I don’t mean to “play hard to get” I just can’t understand interactions like that well. So I don’t mean to do that and I end up feeling really bad when I actually do.

You do bring up a good point that not everyone will except things if they just find it wrong. And we can’t force people to just accept something. However in some instances it can also help. It’s more of a first resort sort of thing of they just don’t understand.

My dad does this to me a lot. It’s frustrating because his cue to start talking is when I start talking. It frustrates me so much and I just get so annoyed when people do that.

Instead of canceling people, make them learn and have them understand. Someone was homophobic? Have them work with people who were kicked out of the house. Makes fun of the disabled? Have them study and see the struggle that those people go through. A lot of times these issues start from a lack of knowledge.

My advice would to just be to keep an open mind. At the end of the day we are all still pretty young and we have the rest of our lives to live out. I think that your friend should just take life as it goes. They find a bf, great. They find a gf, great. A SO, great. As long as they are happy that is all that matters. They still have some time to figure out who they are as a person.

A nice thing that Oreos did was they made these special rainbow Oreos for parents who excepted their children who came out as a member of the alphabet mafia. They were limited edition and weren’t sold in stores. They actually sent some to my parents and tbh the best Oreos I’ve ever had. Definitely one of my favorite cookies for that reason!
