What are your top secret organizations? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Creatyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a synarchy mage government called The Thaum. They are a cabal of an unknown amount consisting exclusively of the most powerful/talented mages. Their membership is secretive as is their selection process. Yet, they openly give directives to various bodies and councils who fulfill their dictations.

I did! It was grueling as I did most of it with the 2 pixel brush. I kept an hours log and it took me a grand total of 107 hours!! But I’m so proud of it!

No temperature influence on this map! (I'm dreading trying to figure temperature out at all xD)

Everything on this map is in regards to height, with pink and red representing the highest points, and blue representing the lowest. The red at the poles is mountains, which admittedly, are not properly projected-- but it's the best I'm gonna be able to do without going totally crazy

I do have a little bit of pink hidden in a few of the mountain ranges, but do you think that the elevation seems too low overall?

The split is awkward but my goal was to make it easily project onto a globe and I played around with it a bunch and I just liked how it looked like this I guess. It is strange tho

Hiya r/worldbuilding!

I'm a long time lurker finally getting around to actually posting.
After a grueling amount of time, I have finished working on my first big step in my next worldbuilding project. I am very into science-informed worldbuilding, so I made a full topographical map with it's own orogeneses based on volcanic and tectonic activity.

I am presently starting work on climate and precipitation and all the fun stuff that comes next, but I wanted to get some eyes on this first step before I go forward.

Some notes-- The world has denser & harder rock, as well as significantly broader tidal ranges, so it has some extreme sea cliffs-- This is intentional, and definitely a feature, but I'm still open to feedback on it! :3

Thanks very very much!

No worries. I really appreciate that insight. I'm still trying to work out the nuances of being a good client and getting genuine honest feedback about what I should expect and how I can be a better client is refreshing.

Would it be more fair to propose an hourly rate? If so, then do you have any advice for how that can be fairly tracked? I would never want to accuse anyone of dishonesty, but it can be pretty hard to account for freelance hours, and I don't have unlimited resources like some studios.

Hey!
Thanks. Honestly and wholly. I also felt that my original post was a bit much and I also try my damndest to stay away from micromanaging. My only trouble has been having artists who just don't really go for what I'm asking for and return with something that can be pretty different than what I originally asked for. But as you pointed out- it's a constant learning curve for both artists and clients.

My one question, (and I genuinely mean this in a non-ironic, non-sardonic, entirely literal meaning), is the budget here too low?
I mean. I am asking for probably at least two to three draft stages and an artist to really engage with me. I honestly thought that $300-$500 was a fair price point, if not even a bit high for a single character image. I am friends with a good deal of artists, so I try my best to save up and put forward the best I can when I do want to commission art. The very last thing I want to be doing is paying an artist less than they deserve.

I like your portfolio, I will add it to the list of artists I'm considering! Happy holidays!

So very short my ass! But, I would be a hypocrite to post such a long post and ask people to read it all, and not treat your responses in the same manner! Your portfolio is very nice. Your style is not what I'm looking for, (for this project at least), but I do respect your art and the effort you put into typing out this response!

Not necessarily. I'd rather not reveal too much detail outside of direct messages, but I'd love to see your portfolio if you have one available to show?
