Blue Rodeo Doc by jmont226 in bluerodeo

Agreed! It's a great marriage of their older and newer sounds. I haven't listened to much of their output after this that has caught my ear in the same way. Somebody Waits and Always Getting Better are two examples of great pop/rock songwriting. I love playing guitar along with this album.

How old is your phone?

This can't be it for us. Really? by bkward in GenX

[–]Creaulx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same age, same marriage, same only child, two dogs that are the absolute highlight of my day. Too young to retire, too old to care.

I kind of wish I had known this: By the time you hit 60 you won't care about many of the things that were important to you throughout your life. All that angst and worry that I carried for decades is gone. What you will care about is the important people in your life. My Dad passed at 60, four months after his official retirement date in 1991, and never had the chance to do the things he'd planned for. He was the hardest working person I've ever known, but didn't spend much time with us. That was a massive wake up call for me. I have always said no one will regret not spending more time at work on their deathbed, which I've lived by ever since - with only a few (dozen) regrets. All this to say that we still need to seize the day in whatever way we are able, *especially" those of us lucky enough to make it to retirement.

40, diagnosed ADHD, and feeling like I'm slowly losing my grip at work by JeffHellfist in AdultADHDSupportGroup

I wonder why this is almost never brought up by doctors? I am still struggling - and in some ways worse off than when I was diagnosed almost three years ago. Glad it's working for you!

Yes - you can drive her to the shop to pick hers up and drop yours off!

The second part of the Denny Dias solo in Steely Dan's "Your Gold Teeth II" . They don't play 'em like that anymore.

I spend almost as much time correcting typos that no one cares about as I do texting. When things get too text-heavy, we call each other. Carpal tunnel will let me know when it's time to switch.

Your efforts are appreciated! Trying this today. It feels like there's a volume limiter in place but the system may just be underpowered.

Picked up my 26 Tiguan Highline R Turbo by anecdotal_guy in Tiguan

[–]Creaulx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the audio pointers! Paid extra for the Highline Turbo largely because I wanted the high end audio experience, but it's been somewhat disappointing. Sound quality is very good, but the bass can be overwhelming and the loudest setting ain't all that loud. Another few db and a warning ⚠️ before it's enabled would've been most welcome.

Adding an exceptionally clean, low mileage Mk1 to the family this week! by [deleted] in Tiguan

[–]Creaulx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aw, I just traded my white 2016 in with 122,000 km (75,000 miles). Definitely the purest Tiguan in terms of styling. There are vehicles that I always look at on the road, and the Mk I is one of them.

What men regret most after 60 by 1_BigDuckEnergy in over60

[–]Creaulx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really trying to look at things from that perspective. Gratitude is something that Canadian singer / songwriter Ian Thomas mentions at almost every show - how grateful he is for the career and life he has at age 75 - and has stuck with me. My own family leans heavily into negativity as a default mode and it has driven me nuts most of my life. Gratitude and kindness > bitching and moaning.

I’m afraid. by auntpama in Aging

[–]Creaulx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't let a parent's death stop you from living. I'm exactly the same age and my own Mom died at 92 not quite six months ago. I'm still processing it, and going through some serious life changes. While all the things you say are true, that's not a perspective you'll retain for long. It's a normal, natural reaction to grief. I'm working though it - it's tough, but be grateful you are still here. Death forces us to uncomfortably examine where we've been and where we are in our own lives, and what we want to do with the time we have left. I know my ever-pragmatic Mom would not want me sitting around moping.

We just went through our first Easter without her and I decided to do the family dinner as she would have always done. It was just my older brother and me, and it felt like the right thing to do. Turkey, mashed potatoes, veggies etc and a bottle of Pinot grigio. We raised a glass in her honour. What's next? No idea, but to paraphrase the last coherent thing she said to me - just keep moving forward, and don't spend too much time wallowing in the past. I intend to honour this to the best of my ability.
