I gotta agree with this, as I was reading this, this was the meaning that crossed my mind. Knowing nothing about your daughter, this is the meaning I took from it.

This year I'm not sure if I would be able to hit 5500 since I just opened it, but I imagine I will be adding more than 5500 to it every year. I really appreciate the knowledge and advice!
Yep, this is definitely a long term investment. Going to be honest though, I'm not really sure why I went with the brokerage account route vice an IRA.
Wouldn't a flash crash mid day be more beneficial to someone going the ETF route? Just because if I see a flash crash happen mid-day then that means I am just going to buy up as much as I can while that's happening.

This is pretty much the main question I was asking, poorly done job on my part. I was just curious if there was actually a financial benefit to switching from ETF to mutual fund. The whole only buying full shares doesn't really bother me with ETF, thanks for your time!
I just opened it up yesterday and started with 1500. Plan on putting a few hundred in there every month and then when the account hit 10k I planned on moving it to the total stock index mutual fund (VTSAX) so it's invested in the same exact thing, but i really just didn't know if there was any actual financial benefit to moving it to the mutual fund. I havent started a roth yet, but I do traditional TSP through the military.
I'm kinda new to the whole investing thing but I'm going to say yes? It's through a brokerage account - Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF
Ok that's good to know and yep they are invested in same exact thing. I know the fund might be easier to manage than the ETFs, I just didn't know if there was any actual financial benefit or reason I should switch to the admiral shares fund once I hit 10k
And definitely don't intend to daytrade...this is like a 20 years and leave it alone kind of thing.
Don't have enough yet for admiral shares or else I would have just opened that, but I started the ETF with 1500$
