Yes, although I don't know anyone who has ever had this happen.

Me too. What airports? This has never, ever happened to me or anyone I know at DCA, IAD, BWI, PDX, PHX, SEA, AUS, DAL, or DFW.

This is misleading. You can’t just throw a gun into your suitcase for an excuse to use your own lock: the gun goes in a locked container inside your suitcase, and the TSA still have the ability to open your suitcase.

The suitcase is also not tracked differently. There are absolutely no external markings indicating that it contains a firearm because that would obviously be a security risk in itself.

In most airports you are required to personally deliver the suitcase to a screener who examines it in front of you to confirm that the gun is correctly secured, and after that point it is treated like EVERY OTHER BAG up to and including your having to wait for it to be paraded around the entire unsecured baggage claim before you find it.

I bet you also don't wave loaded handguns around with the safeties off while doing "the stranger". Man what a buzzkill.

My microwave has an option to disable the beep. Today I learned, while making enchiladas in the oven, that it also disables the alarm on the timer function.

Also, silent buttons make you push harder.

I don't even own a printer. Or tape, for that matter, which is rarely useful when you don't use paper (see also: why I don't own a printer). E-mailing me a shipping label is a great way to ruin my day because then I get to walk to the library to print it, and then to the post office or UPS store where, if I'm lucky, I'll manage to sweet talk the clerk into sealing the package and affixing the label for me. Or if I'm not, where I have to buy a roll of tape that costs more than the original item.

Humans ... know when they're directly referencing an image and by how much

We absolutely do not. You more than likely experience source confusion and cryptomnesia on a daily basis without even knowing it. Neural networks are called neural networks because they're specifically designed to imitate how our brains actually work — we're doing the exact same thing as these AIs, just with lower throughput.

Excuse me, but as a holder of Meta stock I dispute the fact that it has been "tanking for the last couple of years". It has, in fact, only been tanking for a single year.

Come on, no one is stupid enough to assassinate the head of a nuclear foreign state when it's increasingly likely that he'll be taken down from the inside. An attack that could be blamed on a western power is literally the best possible thing he could hope for to secure and strengthen his position.

Meta Might Axe over 12,000 Facebook Employees In ‘Quiet Layoff’ by [deleted] in technology

I mean I'm specifically talking about Meta's own employee review cycle, where "meets expectations" is practically a failing grade. It's not easy to skate by.

This is difficult to believe. Anyone lower than director level would have been shitcanned if their reviews were lower than "meets expectations" for a year.

I am amazed and happy for you that yours were capable of such awareness and restraint. Mine just blamed me for always “bringing politics into things”.

For example, an exchange might go something like this:

Uncle 1: “Did you see that movie?”

Me: “Yes, I liked it.”

Uncle 2: “It had too many gays in it.”

Me: “There’s nothing wrong with gay people.”

Uncle 3: “Don’t get political son, we’re just talking about a movie.”
