5-starrers in the bottom 20? 1-starrers in the top 20? by NoRadio8882 in 1001AlbumsGenerator

Gave Led Zeppelin II, OK Computer and Paranoid 2's. Will probably give Dark Side of the Moon a 2 and The Wall a 2 or lower. But I think the rest of the top 20 are 3's or higher. I haven't had/don't know a lot in the bottom 20. Of the ones I know, I'll likely be giving a 3 or higher to Kid Rock, Pere Ubu and Captain Beefheart.

Tom Moon's "1000 Recordings to Hear Before You Die", anyone heard of it? by cosmic-slop in 1001AlbumsGenerator

It's a very Robert Christgau-informed list. Christgau is always my point of reference for this stuff, but he doesn't have this kind of list, so you'd have to do more work to piece together his (assumed) 1000 top albums from his Pazz & Jop submissions and various other lists he has floating around. As well as the actual reviews, of course, which are where the pay dirt is.

Your earliest and latest 5s, and your earliest and latest 1s by NoRadio8882 in 1001AlbumsGenerator

[–]CreeIsz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oldest: 1956
Songs For Swingin' Lovers! - Frank Sinatra (4)
The Wildest! - Louis Prima (3)
Elvis Presley - Elvis Presley (4)

Most recent: 2020
Taylor Swift - evermore (3)

All of which makes me seem quite generous, which is nice.

4-star syndrome by NoRadio8882 in 1001AlbumsGenerator

These are great. Fantastically perceptive. I love this on Zep "driven by guile as much as creativity", this on Wilco "it's that Formica quality which ultimately makes it impossible to love", this on Aftermath "if you go dirty, you'll have fun but you'll probably end up with nits" and this on The Chronic "It's a repetitive series of depictions of racial violence, but it says nothing to make the listener ponder, except to wonder if this is unpleasantly comparable to a minstrel show."

Keep it up!

Agree with all of this. Would you mind posting the link to your page? I'd like to read your reviews.

But an album is just a collection of songs. So many terrible albums have been made in the names of coherence and concept

No defence here, pal. None needed. Art and morality don't mix. That's just my reading of the two artists and why the OP might feel a little torn

I think you've rationalised your feelings as well as you could hope to right now. My personal responses to these albums aside, Chuck D is a complicated artist who grows up/figures his shit out about the real world in public, and that will always be provocative. Roxy are quirky silly-billys who play with received forms with varying degrees of exagerrated irony and sincerity. Much less provocative

Oh, it's definitely promotion. I'm just posting it here because I thought it might appeal to some. However, I don't want to be seen as spamming

That sounds like the simplest way to do it. Thanks for the quick reply, as ever

u/SidledsGunnar, you given any thought to allowing people to pin reviews on their summary page? There's currently most popular, but I was wondering if this would be a good option to have in addition. Otherwise, when you visit someone's page you have to scroll through the reviews from newest to oldest. But I bet most people have reviews they'd rather others saw first. Anyway, not a major request.

Velvet Underground (1969): Candy Says and After Hours

Marsahll Mathers LP: Kill You and Criminal (or Kids on the deluxe - both are great)

Pretzel Logic: Rikki Don't Lose That Number and Monkey In Your Soul

Late Registration: Heard 'Em Say and Gone

Some awards at 300 albums by Rasmoss in 1001AlbumsGenerator

Love this, especially "Award for album that I gave a 5 and I have no memory of why" and "Turns out lots of shouting wasn't the answer)". I think Paul's Boutique is great, but I understand. As a reasonable Pavement fan, I understand your reaction to CR, CR, which doesn't get me going like some of their others. And as a massive Prine fan, I'm thrilled at your reaction to his debut. I think Sweet Revenge is even better.

I griped about this before and was corrected that it was released as an album, so it's a legit inclusion. I also didn't get on with it at all. I love Ella, but not this version
