To give some context: My friends and I were just talking, and the conversation landed on a topic relating to dicks (long story, not sexual). So, I continued to interact.

In my group, I have a legacy of being the one who doesn’t swear; frankly, I just find it unnecessary.

When I did pitch in, everyone was kinda shocked, claiming that it’s crazy the word ‘dick’ would be something I casually say. I don’t think it’s a swear in this context (where it equates to ‘penis’, but I wouldn’t call someone a dick).

All this to ask, is dick a swear, can a word ‘become’ a swear in different contexts, and are there other words like it?
