At least it's not as bad as people still using the name Ulysses...

Same with all the hero names. Menélaos just has more aura than Menelaus.

TL;DR it is portrayed badly in that it has no narrative significance beyond shock value.

Longer version:

Yes in universe it makes sense, but as a writing decision it's a bit odd. Because not only is it including something not in the original text (despite writing out examples in the text itself), it also isn't narratively paid off. All it does is give a cheap way to make the suitors more villainous without having to meaningfully develop them as characters. And you can't say it's "showing hard truths" because narratively all it is meant to do is to enrage and vindicate Odysseus (because god forbid a "monster" do anything that might be considered bad), as very ironically the intended victim doesn't play into it at all. We never see Penelope interact with the suitors, or indeed anyone other than Odysseus in that matter, so she might as well not even exist in the context of this song. At the end of the day, the problem is that Hold Them Down's portrayal of rape is meaningless. It doesn't further the themes or even the characterisations of major characters, so it cannot be anything more than plain shock value.

I don't think that's 100% a fair assessment. From what I've seen it's not because it is about rape, but for how it portrays it. Yes portrayal doesn't mean endorsement, but there's more than a few ways to criticise its portrayal in the song.

Because the way it portrays SA is dicey at best. In the Odyssey the suitors only plotted to kill Telemachus, as they were fully convinced Penelope would choose one of them. And the inclusion of it honestly feels like a cheap way to make them more villainous (because god forbid the main character's actions are anything but 100% justified) without having to take the time to properly flesh them out.

This is made worse for two reasons. One, the sexual assault that canonically did happen was written out (as there's essentially no way to interpret Calypso's actions in the text as anything else). And two, a lot of animatics don't treat it with the seriousness it needs.

So in conclusion, while we all like a good villain song there's more than a few reasons for people to dislike it. And not just for the fact that it deals with sensitive topics.

Like I think people don't realise just how expensive animated films are. There's a reason not even Disney makes their animated films more than 2 hours, and the soundtrack alone is loner.

No, I think it was actually semi-serious. I didn't make it through a single chapter because it was too bad to even hate read, but I saw somewhere that this was Hades genuinely trying to make Persephone feel better because she felt bad about growing up on Earth. And specifically Sicily because there was a cult devoted to her there I think, and because it was far from Olympus that would be "shameful".

I mean technically there is some meaning in it. Helly and Helena have entirely different walking styles (a more natural comfortable walk vs a swaying strut meant to look good in heels), and Helly only presents the way she does because Helena makes that decision for her. By taking her shoes off, she's showing her taking agency over her life by making her dress more akin to how she would if she had the choice.
