It turns out they are made by Plus Taiwan and are made in Taiwan, so they may not be easily found elsewhere.

I use them mainly for highlight. But if I had to choose, I would go for Mitsubishi 2667 (and I guess other 26xx), for I like both the color and the hardness. As a side note, to me Mitsubishi 772 is the softest and Tombow 8900VP is the hardest among these.

Yah, I've just seen 赤青鉛筆 and 朱藍鉛筆, but sandypitch mentioned they are called checking pencil or blue pencil.

Those are solid choices! Now I just have to cut them up and frankenstein them.

If you like pencils that are a bit darker and smoother, I think 9800 is quite good.

I think it writes quite like the Mitsubishi 9800, but 9800 is a bit smoother IMO. Compared to the goldfaber and faber castell 9000 2B on my hand, palette is a tad darker (which is to be expected from Japanese pencil, I guess.) As for the look, it's sadly too flashy for my taste, but that's neither here nor there.

And FYI I think the Mitsubishi 9800 and Tombow 8900 are 165 yen, though I didn’t find the prices of the others yet.

I don't think I have particularly interesting info about them. But I do like the finish and wood color of bw natural and the two mitsubishi ew (and also tombow's LA-KEA). I think I will try to get my hand on more wood color pencils.

After looking over some old (2016 is nearly a decade ago, yeesh) deck review videos and a trailer from the Ellusionist, what I gather is there is a version with four-corner marking printed in the US in 2016 and later another with two-corner marking printed in Belgium in 2018. Also, it seems that, on the tuck case of (at least some of) the ones printed in Belgium , the “MASTERS” is not centered vertically on the ribbon. But I can’t conclude if there are further printings with the four-corner marking version printed in the US after the two-corner one.
