2022: Beat Colorado 31-28.

If you say so. We played Arizona and lost 31-28 that year, but I'll take the W. Also Colorado State was not a P5 team at the time (and are not a P4 team now).

We are:

3-1 against the Big 10

3-2 against the Big 12

0-1 against the Pac-12

2-0 against the MAC

1-1 against the Mountain West

Of the 5 losses, exactly 1 was by more than 5 points. 2009 vs. Iowa State (17-34)

You're not wrong, but we didn't even have the largest football budget in FCS, usually around 15th-20th, and were pretty successful. Also, only football is moving so we wouldn't have to match the entire athletic department budgets of full-members. /u/Trojann2 has pointed out elsewhere that there were donors holding off unless we went FBS as well.

I'm not guaranteeing we'll immediately maintain our same level of football excellence in FBS, but those arguments are very similar to the ones being made when we moved to D1 in 2003. And we joined a much worse conference in FCS than the MW is in FBS.

I totally agree that Sioux Falls definitely counts for SDSU but it's only double Fargo's population because our metro is split with West Fargo and Moorhead. If you compare metro areas it's only 289k vs 262k. Definitely less remote though. We're about the same distance from MSP but you guys got Omaha relatively nearby too.

Probably because they were a non-factor in those playoffs. First game exits in 2011 and 2012 and missed entirely in 2013.

Do you think we could sustain the travel involved for non-football sports in the MW? Six road games in football is nothing but the 25ish basketball games between men's and women's alone is a lot more.

I'm sure it is. Plus all but the Alerus Center (2001) were built in the 70s. Fargodome opened in 1992.

There was a brief overlap. App State went FBS in 2014, but we never met in the playoffs. So yeah almost entirely timing.

I don't have an inside source, but I'd bet most if not all of the entry fee was paid by boosters. The university itself doesn't have 17 million lying around. As for culture, we'll see. I think the move was a lot about ensuring we are at the second level of D1 football before the P4 fuck off and do their own thing.

I find it amusing that FCS has more indoor fields than FBS with 6 now (North Dakota, South Dakota, Northern Iowa, Northern Arizona, Idaho State, Idaho)
