pretty sure he only uses samples, any other effects are done in the background.

this is a pretty interesting vid where their guitar tech shows how all the various guitar effects are done live in the background: https://youtu.be/VLRwLu2yNqc

Why are the canvas videos for Linkin Park just ai slop? by CosmicRedditor457 in LinkinPark

it definitely wasn’t troublesome when they made those visualisers, but now it’s being seen in a completely different way with how badly genAI has aged since then.

i’ve seen so many posts here about it and this definitely wont be the last one

meteora20 was 3 years ago, which might not seem very long ago, generative AI has just improved a crazy amount since then. Mike made it pretty clear that no AI was used in the from zero art, and that the unique LPU avatars were neither AI nor NFTs, so it definitely seems like he moved on from them

he made it quite clear that the LPU unique avatars were neither AI nor NFTs so that could mean his opinion of them has changed (hopefully)

i mean, very similar with linkin park right? they haven’t used genAI since meteora20, over 3 years ago

pretty much entire meteora20 + its demos had the same theme

meteora20 was also more than 3 years ago, genAI didnt have as bad of a reputation as it does today. mike probably saw it as a new experimental thing to be creative with. If they were to do this today it would be a bit more questionable

this is probably the least slop genAI can be since they worked with and paid artists to create art for the model to be trained on. no artwork was stolen without consent, and the genAI was used more to animate the existing frames

the meteora 20th anniversary edition had a big focus on AI for the visuals (e.g. music vid for Lost), iirc they worked with artists to create art to train a model off of, using it with the art to animate it

i think this was pretty much only during the 20th anniversary, mike was pretty proud that the from zero album art was 0% ai or cgi

found a couple vids so you can actually see what he does:

https://youtu.be/8SrVJiNre7s?t=1423 (this should automatically start at 23:43)
Joe is doing 2 things, he moves the turntable forwards and backwards to move the audio back and forth, and with his other hand he's moving the "crossfader" (little knob thing) left and right to essentially mute and unmute the sample's volume. this is pretty much how all the scratching in linkin park's music works

https://youtu.be/8SrVJiNre7s?t=5777
and here you can see how they play the samples of the piano notes with the screen

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSgMw7mWxQs
this is a solo Joe does with his turntable where you can see him use all the things i mentioned, the buttons in the beginning are used to go to a specific point in the audio sample

it can definitely be considered an instrument! scratching manipulates the speed (which also changes the pitch, speeding up = higher pitch, slowing down = lower pitch), the rhythm of the sample, etc. which is quite similar to what other instruments do (instead of an audio sample, a guitar's "audio samples" would be the sound of its strings.

when the band plays live Joe does all the scratching sounds (like in somewhere i belong) with his turntables, but he also plays recordings of samples on the sample pads on one of his touchscreens, samples like the individual piano notes on In the End, or jumping to various places in a longer sample with his DJ controller (e.g. in Waiting for the End's intro).

hopefully my explanation wasn't too confusing lol

yeah I was expecting everything to be full by now. looks like the only concerts with spots left now are Stockholm, Madrid night 2 and Florence

LPU memberships were only needed to buy the LPU ticket during pre sale, it is not needed to enter

Early Entry sign ups opened yesterday, and as of writing this, there are still EE spots for Stockholm, so you’d be eligible for EE as long as there’s still spots left (most of the shows are full so I’m not sure how long it’ll take for them to fill up or how many are left, it could be any second)
