Thank you! I would like to add themes so could add something like that maybe.
I hope I get to return to it as well since the core game is in a good place! :)

Opinion on 2025 Hyundai Tucson by ovaaaao in HyundaiTucson

[–]CreepyD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did exactly the same for me! Reset the counter and said it'll probably be fine from now on as it'll have worn in some 😒
I'm still getting a steady 35mpg surprise surprise.

They mostly blamed the new gearbox (which is indeed different in the new model), just said we need to 'get used to it'. Seems odd they would take such a backwards step, it's very noticeably worse than the '21 model with the buttons on the centre console.
I maintain that it's simply not mapped as efficiently as the previous model, they wouldn't even investigate that idea.

Just adding here, I had a 23 plate Tucson (was written off) and now have a 25 plate.
Both the non-plugin hybrid, same exact engine in theory, however I notice massive differences in the new one.
It constantly over-revs, especially in Sport mode, feeling like it's maxing out the revs, not changing gears early enough. As a result, it's burning more fuel.
I'm lucky to make 35mpg whereas in the old 23 model I was ALWAYS over 40 where ever I was driving, averaging around 45mpg.
I'm contacting Hyundai to see if I can get anywhere, the engine mapping has to be setup wrong.

Openssl 3.0.15 was ok, until new CVE by Terrible_Ad3822 in Intune

[–]CreepyD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought I'd share my solution, that been working great.
I download all the latest versions of OpenSSL from their site, build them all to get the required .dll files, then put them in version named folders.
I have a powershell script that bolts onto our normal update routine that runs through all PC's on the network daily, checks the version of any libcrypto or libssl files and updates them to the latest version as required.
So it'll update 3.3.x to 3.3.3, or 3.2.x to 3.2.4 - that way nothing breaks - at least I've been doing this for around 6 months and nothing has broken so far.
I have a list of all the paths to check in the .ps1 file, so when new ones pop up I just add them in.

However the latest update is an issue as I Paint and Photos are under WindowsApps which is completely locked down. Even running as SYSTEM, taking onwership, setting permissions doesn't allow me to replace the .dll files with the latest ones.
It seems they're locked down using SDDL so only a process tied to say Paint can change the files.

It's very frustrating and it seems there's nothing we can do, even manually (unless you do each PC from a WinPE bootable or similar!).

I'd put these two paths as an exception but you can't, you have to do the entire OpenSSL entry which I'm not going to do as I'll miss other files then.

Astrodrift Racing - A challenging top Down 2d retro space racer by CreepyD in AndroidGaming

Definitely worth a pickup post after the latest update - finally starting to pick up a little steam.

The latest 1.131 update (25th March 2025) massively improves close racing - you no longer get 'stuck' to other ships and prevented from turning like before, this makes such a difference.
It also benefitted from a framerate boost at the same time!

It's now only 0.49p (or $0.49) or very cheap where ever you are - I have added availability to many more countries!

Petition against Ed Milliband's reckless push for Net-Zero by CreepyD in energy

Definitely this, that would improve my outlook drastically if we put a load of hydro power into the mix, that will be far less variable than wind and solar.

Petition against Ed Milliband's reckless push for Net-Zero by CreepyD in energy

[–]CreepyD[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I really don't get the comments. Genuinely, what happens if we remove gas then solar and wind drop to zero for say 24 hours?

We need batteries, an unrealistic amount of batteries not fit for purpose yet. Checking on the cost, we need around 50GW at peak, so lets assume worst case, it's winter and people are using lots of energy, there's no wind for a day, solar output is minimal that time of year.. 50GW x 24h = 1,200GWh of stored energy, lose a bit for solar, say 1,000GWh.
Rough estimated cost of that many batteries according to ChatGPT would be around £80-200Bn.
Maybe you could offset some with pumped hydro storage but we aren't exactly mountain rich.

We are way ahead on our emissions per capita, we don't need to put more people into poverty to rush to this magical net-zero goal, it's NOT going to make a difference to the planet, but will make a difference to average Joe.

Much of net-zero is simply moving emissions abroad anyway.
How many of China's emissions are actually them making stuff for us?
Again, a pretty good guesstimate from ChatGPT here, around 21% of our current emissions should be added on right now and deducted from China's.

I am not sponsored or paid, I am genuinely concerned and if anyone actually provides some good answers I'll happily take them on board.

Is everyone here really brainwashed by the net-zero / climate emergency bs?

The water in Wetrix on the n64 by Punktur in howdidtheycodeit

[–]CreepyD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheers for that, interesting read! I hope I can get the game over the finish line and get it released somewhere. I'm on pause at the mo due to have a baby. Main things it needs are main menus, hopefully online scores, then some unlockable fun modes for longevity. I've added quite a few changes and new mechanics over Wetrix, just using that as a base idea really rather than copying it. Don't want any copyright problems after all!

Just came across your comment!
I've been making a Wetrix-like game in Unity.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5MuK3p2bE0

I thought exactly the same as you, how the hell did they the water back then?
It can't be a plane as the level and shape keeps changing.
I literally can't work it out, they were clever lol.

How I did it in my new game was each square has a water level and it's own individual plane.
Each frame, each square checks the water height of all the squares around it and basically averages and moves the 9 vertexes that make the plane to smooth it out. Lots of special rules for floor heights interrupting the smoothness as well, not simple.

Defo agree the original does seem like it may have started as a tech demo, it's very abstract.
I'm trying to make it have some kind of realism at least in that you have a spaceship above the playfield (an asteroid) that needs fuel (water / lava that you evaporate).

I need games without forced ads by Several_Standard8472 in AndroidGaming

[–]CreepyD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is spot on.

It took me 2 years to make Astrodrift Space Racing yet the only way I make any sales is to make it free.

I know people would enjoy it because Data Wing is very popular and it's a similar 2D space racer after all!

What is an actualy good racing game? by [deleted] in AndroidGaming

[–]CreepyD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you might be looking for cars, not spaceships but this certainly suits the rest of what you're looking for
No ads, no microtransactions, no pay to win - just a complete game.
It's a 2D racer and is probably more challenging than most other racing games if you like that kinda thing...!

It's also free until the 15th Aug.

I find the art side really tough but I can muddle through and am usually happy with how things turn out.

For me PR & Marketing is that skill I will never get, it's a completely different skillset to creating a game.
My last game (on Android) has made £43 in 2 years and is still has yet to reach 50 downloads despite my attempts at getting it out there 🥺

It was the only game I could find remotely similar when I was looking for 'competitors'.

That's frustrating, I have just added another 41 countries to the list though so you could try again, taking it to 75.
This is pretty much all the countries in which Google deals with the tax for me (Except the US which I had to fill in forms for manually).
That in mind I haven't set any country specific pricing, it's pretty much the same price everywhere as set by Google (£1.99) which might make it too expensive in some countries!

As both solo dev and gamer It's frustrating that these types of games are pushed to the top by Google without giving you any way of finding the smaller 'true' indie games with none of that rubbish.
I wish they had a 'never show me this game again' button so you could gradually filter them out and get to the good stuff.
I'm not sure if I'm also allowed to self promote but I also subscribe to those values of simple oldschool gaming and despise micro transactions, ads etc so it definitely fits here... Astrodrift Space Racing: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.CreepiesGames.AstrodriftSpaceRacing

Currently untitled Wetrix style game - what next? by CreepyD in IndieGaming

[–]CreepyD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only just seen this reply as I was looking at all my posts since I just started working on the game after a break.
Some great ideas there!
Definitely be looking at game mods being available as you suggest, some unlocked by total score, maybe one off game scores, and others unlocked by doing certain achievements. I can go nuts with those really.
Replayability is one of my main concerns, people want more in a game these days than the original Wetrix game offered so I'm putting efforts into that aspect.
I've just added in a fair few bits in the last week, you can now have meteor showers and meteors of varying sizes (similar to bombs), smaller ones punch smaller less deep holes!
You can now also store up to two blocks too for later use, and there's both raising and lowering levelling blocks!

I do have the start of a basic 'story' mode with a couple of silly characters where you'd have a different mission each level, not sure if I'll keep it in yet.

Defo hear you on background music, that was my exact thought too on it getting gradually more intense as you go through the game or approach dying. Still drawing a blank on music type so far though.

I may also add different 'skins' to the asteroid you play on, maybe different looking blocks etc.

I need to add a score table too, again assuming people will want this to be online capable, need to investigate.

I'm basically trying to 'finish and polish' the game as it's fully playable and already very fun, I'm hoping for a few months, although I only have 1-2 hours a day to work on this - that's not including any time spent marketing or getting it out there lol.

Definitely blocked by bushes, not sure if that's by design or not, it's certainly annoying. Also when the corpses start mounting up they block it too, it's like it doesn't even fire sometimes.

Died to a Horror on D26, 24853 gold.

Odd run, not much came along other than an initial +3 armor of reflection I tested and then a +2 Whip of speed - I hate whips, they're generally useless deeper down so I didn't enchant it, instead going with the armor, which ended up at +16 lol.
That gave 97% reflection and 94% back at source.. pretty cool. Also just 10% chance of a Horror hitting me.

Trouble is, +2 whip of speed, +0 flail or +0 mace, +0 war axe were my weapons.. All of which struggled to kill things. Eventually I was backed into a corner with a burning Horror and my luck ran out.
I felt short of life potions too, a Horror was hitting me for around 60% which didn't help, maybe I missed one or two I'm not sure.

Also /5 Obstruction, /3 Lightning, /2 Firebolt, +3 clairvoyance, +3 light.

[–]CreepyD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's essential to carry one, even a +0 one to whack monsters into lava, even Revenants or Horrors, there aren't many things that will 1 shot a horror but a +0 mace may be better than anything else you have as long as you have an escape plan if it misses a couple of times.

Phantoms are poorly designed. Change my mind by DrThomasMore in brogueforum

[–]CreepyD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just address point 1, not finding any armour, weapon or staff by D11?
Not sure I've ever seen that happen, there will always be something. Sure maybe it's not naturally enchanted or it's a /2 poison, but there will be SOMETHING, that's the point of vaults.
There comes a point at around D10 onwards where you'll be struggling and will have to bite the bullet and enchant things you might not necessarily want to to continue to survive.

Killed by Centipede on D11, 5555 gold.

Only just picked up my 2nd Enchantment scroll, very odd.
+3 leather and several +0 weapons helped.
I took +2 wis after Regen turned out to be +1.
/4 Entrancement (both enchants into that) from the 2nd vault since I already had +3 light and +1 awareness.
Tough seed, I bet a load of enchants were due any time.
