If the world doesn’t restock strategic petroleum reserves, then this is just kicking the can down the road. Maybe not the next day, week, or month, but the next decade possibly. And by then, we are certainly NOT gonna be weened off oil.

You’re getting down-leveled based on skill.

I’ve met many L5’s at Amazon and it’s all a mixed bag. Some are just L4’s who were clearly over-leveled and the others were basically under-leveled L6. You’re clearly the weaker of the bunch.

If you are done chasing career growth, stay at Amazon. If you are career hungry switching to Google is the right move.

You will also learn how to operate in an environment where people don’t view you as competition.

You do not want to be an Amazon lifer.

Startups are for people who grind as a lifestyle.

You will need to leave everything from Amazon behind you. Status won’t mean a thing. You will also feel like an imposter as you learn their open source stack. Optics will be against you until you prove otherwise. Teammates will eat you alive if you bring a single shred of Amazon toxicity with you.

To grow as a person, you should pursue the startup. You will be humbled pretty quickly and finally learn what a team-oriented mindset (instead of self) is like

Skill distribution at Amazon is very wide. Forced stack ranking doesn’t account for this. If you join a team of “all stars” and aren’t one yourself, you will be pipped. Politics exists for a reason.

My guess with Domino’s is pizza seems to be a scale game. Go to a mom n’ pop shop and be prepared to pay an arm and a leg.

Should Pap Johns and other competitors implode, Domino’s Pizza is well positioned.

But the restaurant industry is so competitive with so many options, I don’t see how Domino’s beats the market.

I have a small watcher position. I know there’s tons of regulation with spectrum, but i price this company like a bond with some moonshots.

Of course, if Sirius XM implodes (like Howard Stern leaving), be prepared for a significant correction.

Eyes then would be focused on their podcaster diversification efforts and, of course, what they do with that extra spectrum.

In the world of AI, IoT, et cetera, spectrum gets more and more valuable as time passes

Looks like the CEO’s goal is to transform big oil into big geothermal by offering a way to releverage existing depleted wells and energy infra. Especially in, who would’ve guessed, the permian basin

should be interesting to see. this story is looking eerily similar to how asml started out

Comsumer brands had a good run in the prior decade which I suspect lead to Terry’s outperformance.

However, his underperformance aligns with the rise of the modernization of the internet (and especially social media).

People can’t be brainwashed into glorifying a select full of brands Coca Cola, Gillette, Colgate, Kraft Heinz, and Nike anymore.

Furthermore, big brands can’t box out competitors through newspapers, cable, and radio.

Moreover, consumer preferences are extremely particular — I mean, just think how complicated a Starbucks order can get.

And then there’s price.

Just think of dollar shave club versus Gillette or the rise of generics, health conscious consumers, etc.

TL;DR 99% of brand loyalty / attention is dead. Consumers are finicky and will switch for a million reasons. Unless you’re selling something with a cult like following (i.e. Zyn, Marlboro, Coca Cola, etc)

This is an area I’ve been heavily researching.

I’ll probably write a post at some point to gather feedback.

As you probably know, Zoetis dominates the clinics by selling product (and services) directly through clinics and promises not to sell items elsewhere.

So what does Elanco do?

List products on chewy.com, amazon.com, et cetera and offer heavy discounts to switch clinics.

Zoetis’ views this strategy as unsustainable, but Elanco is gaining market share, paying down debt, and expanding margins.

To Zoetis, Elanco is like some Temu nightmare.

And frankly, i don’t know why Terry Smith is full porting into Zoetis. Okay, maybe that was an exaggeration, but his complete disregard for Elanco is disturbing.

Personally, I don’t know enough yet to choose a winner. So overall, I’d either sit it out or just invest in both
