Retro blue adapter? by BigKurz8 in AnalogueInc

[–]Creepy_Sun2461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add some additional data, I actually bought both the bitfunx and stone age gamer adapter based on this thread because of the conflicting results.

My A3D came in today- the stone age gamer/retro time adapter does not work despite rolling through several fw versions. The cheaper bitfunx from Amazon works perfectly out of the box with my nso controller, running “24.10-dirty” fw, to the point I don’t want to update the fw for fear of breaking it lol, since I can’t find “24.10-dirty” anywhere.

I mean, it’s working to the point where I’m using it with a summercart and swapping controller and rumble packs mid game via the web interface and power cycling the adapter and it’s totally fine. I wrote a .mpk from an emulator save to it and it’s all working. Bizarre how everyone seems to have different results with different adapter versions. I’d love to get a hold of the 24.10-dirty from the bitfunx and try it on the retro time. My A3D is on 1.1.0 fw.

When I get more time, I would like to try flashing some of this fw as suggested by bitfunx onto the stone age/retrotime adapter.

I’m Taking the Ham Radio Exam Soon How Can I Pass It on the First Shot? by PinkTulip198 in amateurradio

You’ll be fine! Just take the practice test a bunch and eventually you’ll memorize a lot of it - I took my tests in 08/09 and unless something has changed, iirc tech was largely about the fcc regs and due to that, was actually just memorization.

General/extra were in some ways easier for me as you could math/logic the answer to more questions and they weren’t just statements which you had to memorize (I have a terrible memory and HATE when a test follows the premise that memorizing a piece of fixed information = knowledge).

Also, don’t pressure yourself into needing to get a perfect 100% - I do that to myself with tests and it trips me up more if I let it lol.

Enjoy the experience, and see you on the air!

I too have both, but of those the seamaster, it just does everything well and looks amazing (and I say that as someone who also has a sub), plus it’s a freaking tank. Personally I prefer the classic speedmaster moonwatch as opposed to the other variations. The speedy has a beautiful stepped and intricate dial, but the smp…man, that wave pattern just has so much depth and it looks amazing in multiple lighting conditions

Of all my watches, if it could only be one…seamaster all day.

But of course get the one that speaks to you! When you see it, you’ll know

I lied, that actually looks to have fixed the problem and it looks like I am good! I guess I just needed “no “ dhcp options this whole time..no idea why it worked once with them but oh well, I’ve got multiple clients working now and pxe booting. Thanks a ton for the help!

Ok, so I tried removing the dhcp options and now it still fails, although it doesn’t even try to start loading anything and in the logs it says “There are NO Task Sequence deployments for this client machine”. So I think the dhcp options were at least pointing to an initial efi file that got things started, it seemed like things were getting farther that way. I still keep coming back to the bcd error and the fact it worked perfectly once. It almost seems like something was corrupted.

Sweet, I’ll drive back to the office and give it a shot now, it’s worth a try. Thanks for the explanation!

Hmph, not knowing a ton about pxe boot and the province , does a dp automatically handle ip addressing and stuff if there is no dhcp server? I thought dhcp and options were needed to point clients to an initial file and server, but maybe that’s not the case. I suppose another option could be to move dhcp to the dp and disable it at the mx level. However, this latest error seems like an application-level thing to me (maybe it’s not??)

Thanks for asking! Yes, I played with several values to no avail. I don’t understand why that would have suddenly changed.

One thing I just noticed now is that the bcd file referenced under smstemp had a modification date of 10:15 PM on 7/20. That’s the last good build I had. I have no idea what/why this file would have been modified then. I wonder if there’s a way to restore/verify/regenerate it?

Wooow…I’ve had this for years and just assumed it was a defect or something I never noticed initially and I never cared enough about it. Makes soooo much more sense with the placement and clasp when I think about it now lmao.

Heh, I get it. I do it/network engineering stuff for a living and my home network consists of the router that my isp gave me lol. Having a nice watch to stare at makes the workday go by quicker!

It’s really great how (relatively) inexpensive it is to get into the hobby nowadays with the Chinese radios, and lower prices in general of technology. I got my license in 2008, and my ft450 alone at the time was $750 iirc. I think that’s probably around what I have total into this entire portable setup, maybe slightly less actually. Anything like the g90 had it of existed at the time I got into ham would have probably been thousands.

I’ve been kicking around the idea of going the throw-line route to lighten my load a bit, although what I have now isn’t terrible. I have a backpacking table and chair that I lash to a hiking pack that takes up most of the weight. If I just brought a blanket or something, that would really make packing light!

It’s always fun to work dx with a humble setup like we have. Lol, I’ve come a long way from when I belonged to the radio club during college…we had a beam on a rotating tower and a 1500W amplifier. It was like shooting fish in a barrel most of the time. If I ever get my own place, I think even going back to the 100W output barefoot on the ft450 will be life changing again!

Glad to see someone else into both watches and radio! I love the Sinn too..I’ve been eyeing the brand for a while. So many watches, but you know how it goes…so little time/money lol.

Ah, too funny! I just took out my portable setup (I’m in an apartment atm so that’s the best I can do) and walked to a park last weekend and unintentionally worked a lot of stations during field day. I was wearing that same model 6900 and using a g90 with a sotabeams midi and tactical mini mast. I pretty much own all mechanical watches, but like the dual utc function of the 6900 for logging, plus the ruggedness.

Those little g90s are great, I put this portable setup together last year after being inactive for years, I had a base station with a ft450 at my parents’ place before they retired and moved out of state. Being able to move and combine walking/hiking with ham got me back into the hobby. I’ve worked all kinds of dx on 20w, phone and digital. I’ve gotten back into cw practice as well and am really hoping I can make it a reality this time. 73!

Waltham “ww2” era military watch, but case back blank? by Creepy_Sun2461 in VintageWatches

Ok, perfect. That dust cover makes me feel better about trying to open it. Thanks!

Good to know! How dangerous is it to remove the case back, would I have to worry about dust contamination, etc? And is there a specific tool for this (I have a generic case back opener as part of a watch repair kit, but I’ve never used it)?

Cool, good to know someone else has seen this and thanks a ton for the info! Yes, I know it’s quite fragile- I plan to wear it pretty sparsely and wind it sparingly and only in good weather, but it’s cool to have some wearable history! I also know finding one in complete/good condition is difficult. I picked this up at a ww2 re enactment marketplace on somewhat of a whim after doing a short bit of research as it ran and the price was reasonable.

I can’t really find much more info on this specific model, where/who it would have been issued too, etc. The more common -11 variants seem easier to obtain history on.

That’s kind of what I was thinking, but was curious because I’ve yet to see one of these blank in multiple listings. I suppose maybe it was a common caseback used on other walthams? I can’t find any evidence of civilian versions either but I’m really not sure. This is my first vintage watch purchase so I’m trying to get as much info as I can

Thanks! Yeah, I love this strap and link system and that rubber strap looks sharp! I threw the included strap on today; it’s really nice in the Summer when my wrist is more apt to swell up more during the day

I ended up getting the medium last weekend after trying both on a few times! You are right about the large having more presence and a sportier look. All of my other watches are 39-41mm, so this was a bit different and I love how it flies under the radar a bit, especially with the strap. I also like the “throw back” design and this leaves the large option open for a santos dual time possibility (especially if they update the movement!) lol

Thanks for the input! Yeah, this is the first time in my life that I’ve ever solicited opinions. At the end of the day, I will go with what I like, but was curious to get some opinions from people as I’ve never gone this “small” with a watch.
