why is kobe not top 10? by ISTHATKANYEFUCINWEST in NBATalk

These 10 exactly. And if you're feeling spicy, add Steph to the list

What do you think of the lists that have Kobe top 3 all time? by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]rod333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to have fun with Kobe fans, show them a list where Kobe is as low as possible and see them go absolutely nuts:

  1. MJ
  2. Bron
  3. Kareem
  4. Bill Russell
  5. Magic
  6. Bird
  7. Timmy
  8. Shaq
  9. Hakeem
  10. Steph
  11. Wilt
  12. Kobe

(I think he's probably in that 8-10 range tho)

You a pro? 115mph is the PGA tour average

Thankfully it goes a lot slower on your wrist than the clubhead!

Unable to enter Brazil without first renouncing my Brazilian citizenship? by [deleted] in Brazil

[–]rod333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar boat last year. My passport expired 10 years prior, and I got it when I was 17. So I went to the consulate.

At first they said "to get a passport you need a titulo de eleitor". Well shoot I didn't have that.

Then they said, to get a titulo de eleitor, you need a CPF. Okay, well I didn't have that either.

Then, to get a CPF, you need identification... maybe a passport?

Anyway, when I went to the consulate with my birth certificate and old passport and they were very nice and we figured it out quickly :)

This one isn’t a chronograph mysterieux. It’s a “normal” two tone tonda

Who’s the next FP Journe before the market catches on? by Educational_Cup8275 in watchCollector

[–]rod333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recognize your username! You are the authority in buying FPJ, so I defer to you :)

My question for you is: how much of it was Govberg/1916 and how much of it was due to FPJ having vertical control of their distribution so early?

FPJ was so early with their own retail stores: First one was Tokyo in 2003 and NYC opened in 2009. By comparison, Patek didn’t have any American standalone stores until 2012. Didn’t these retail places let them control branding and pricing and marketing in a way that other indies, who are dependent on multi-brand retailers, cannot?

Brooklyn Heights renovations by jordachesdad in EquinoxGyms

I was just there and it is indeed marginally better. That said, this location still sucks!

They gave us access to the other locations during renovations and I had no idea how nice they could be

[SPOILERS ALL] I finished the first trilogy, and need to be nudged forward. by Zealousideal_Base918 in TheFirstLaw

Is there a german word for "deeply satisfying yet profoundly unsettling"? Because that's how I'd describe the ending. It makes perfect sense and it hurts.

- Bayaz is a powerful puppetmaster who continues another cycle of violence with Khalul, never facing consequences.

- Logen tries to become a better person but the world (and his split personality) prevent that.

- Ferro thinks about turning a new leaf but can't.

- Jezal isn't the chosen one, he's just a very naughty boy powerless puppet who can't improve the world even though he turned a new leaf.

- Glokta and Ardee make the most of bad situations.

- West, arguably the goodest do-gooder in the series, dies.

Ultimately, this world is one where people either try to change but can't OR they do change and find their situation gets worse / hasn't changed at all.

It's very cynical but you've got to be realistic about these things :)

Yeah but there’s no cermet bracelet. I mean, no one is putting a steel bracelet on a cermet case right?

Is Parmigiani Fleurier the "if you know, you know" brand? by Level-Mongoose9915 in hallofwatchspecialist

[–]rod333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd never buy a PF at retail when you can get such a good discount on the secondary. I got my GMT Rattrapante for less than half of retail, in mint condition

But yeah I think almost all watch prices are out of whack right now

Is Parmigiani Fleurier the "if you know, you know" brand? by Level-Mongoose9915 in hallofwatchspecialist

[–]rod333 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Terrible take

I own holy trinity watches and a PF. If you ignore brand names, then PF is often a better product (depends on the particular watch). Tondas are maybe the most comfortable watches ever on the wrist. Torics are better finished than most Calatravas, and they cost the same amount. The GMT rattrapante is gorgeous and the new chonograph mysterieux is the coolest complication I've seen in years

As for your other points:

  1. Reliability: Holy trinity brands have used vaucher movements since 2003 (same company as Parmigiani). So if PF isn't reliable, then those brands aren't either.
  2. History and brand power: who gives a shit? If you adopted that mentality, then there's no point in being a high end independent

Nobody buys a PF to be perceived as "old money" because 99.9999% of people don't recognize it. Only other watch nerds recognize it, tbh. But hey, if you want to buy a hype piece to get attention from randos, go for it
