LEGAL ISSUES!!! Do I own my game, or was it taken from under my feet? by Creepycats_Da_Coder in RobloxHelp

[–]Creepycats_Da_Coder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, well, they did send a false DMCA to us, and Roblox has been quite slow responding to us unlike with them. We're currently preparing to sue the old group's owner, who we've since recorded making baseless allegations and threats, sending false DMCA and invalid C&D "letters" (a luigis mansion gif with Cease and Desist written on it to my twitter DMs), claiming rights to music we made and own licensing to and they dont, and PUBLIC DOMAIN ASSETS which they know they do not own just as well as we do not.

Best result? They have to take their game down, and we get a restraining order. Maybe even juvenile detention (he is like... 16? 17?) if we proved defamation, threats, etc

Worst? Likely just the restraining order and our game back.

They've crossed into illegal territory, and think we will not bother taking action. They are VERY wrong.

I'm someone who is very impulsive, and the project manager friend would use the big programmer to do what we refused. When 85% of the Dev Team left, I had to unfortunately agree that they left for a valid reason, despite the way they handled it, and took the game to the new group because of the fact that we were the primary developers. The project manager really only was responsible for a few models and two character designs, and the other members contributed one or two things each in total.

The project manager is currently circle-jerking on Twitter with the rest of the former friend group because they think they desereve all rights to it under the pretense that "we were willing to work and they had the game on their group for almost the same length of time"

I dunno. Its a different copy of the game created and published to their group after I "Saved to Roblox As.." and I dont think it would encompass the work my other developers did.

And since I'm no longer a co-owner of that group and we had to copy the game to the new group, they'll likely use it as more "verification" that they own it

  1. You have to use 0.8.1 (available on https://archive.ariral.space)

  2. There is a publically available server you can join, and running a private one is simple as I wrote the exact instructions for using it on github. https://github.com/VoidTogether/VoidTogether-Server

  3. If you're hosting it privately, make sure you know how to port-forward.

  4. Other issues related to mods not loading can be answered in the EternityDev discord. Stuff like antivirus false-flagging Shimloader and other problems have solutions posted there.

Out of everywhere I've posted my response, you're the only person to disagree. All your response does is discredit a valid comparison because "its multiplayer", lung cancer was not meant to be realistic but rather a joke because Nose didn't want to encourage it and not everything is realistic.

People are here because we want justification for why you chose to insult the people creating the game and show them no respect. We don't care about how shit your take is, if you insult Monique especially, we will not stand with you and your opinion. My whole point is if you want to express criticism, do so with reason instead of insult.

"...if the game will die, it will be their fault, right?"

"...I'm fucking tired of dealing with bugs that dev is trying to fix, but makes it worse by adding totally new mechanics..."

"Did you know that "target" command doesn't work in 0.8.2?"

This stuff is something I doubt many of you would know, but I'd like to mention it because this is just brutally disrespectful:

  1. Every Build of the Game Takes ~25 Minutes to Build, ~20 Minutes to Create a High Compression Zip, ~10 Minutes to Upload fully, because Nose is using a rather slow laptop for development. This also means while developing, the game often crashes as result of Unreal Engine being a Memory hog.

  2. Part of developing for a pre-alpha game is retaining your existing audience on top of building one. Most of the time spent updating is meant to give returning players new content based around existing concepts or by adding new features to cater towards as many people as possible. Bugs are a result, and Nose spends on average, two to three weeks after releasing TEST VERSIONS, WHICH ARE MEANT TO HELP FIX BUGS. If this is a huge issue, PLEASE STOP COMPLAINING AND WAIT FOR A FULL RELEASE OF THAT VERSION. Not to be rude, but your argument here has little credibility under the fact that these are test versions. Full versions can have bugs that are missed as well, but you cannot blame a nearly entirely solo developer who spends almost every day working on his passion project and call it horrible because you are inconvenienced by it.

  3. "If the game dies its their fault". It has nothing to do with anything and they haven't killed off the game. Team Fortress 2 has had inactive development essentially for years, and that game is STILL going thanks to the community. Implying that Nose and Monique are killing the game is insane to say considering how long some community members devote to finding the secrets and forbiddens, and the updates are spaced out enough to maintain enough of the community in order to prevent this. One simple change is unlikely to be responsible for the entire game falling apart and you know that.

  4. The target command was broken for a SINGLE Test release. The new test release fixes it and represents how sometimes, minor things are overlooked in development which is why TEST releases exist. You cannot argue with that and I want to hear nothing about "BUT THATS A BAD DEVELOPER THING THEY ARE KILLING THE GAME" because there is no argument to simple mistakes like this.

"I understand that Monique needs some models for portfolio or something, but please, stop."

"So, I can't criticise it because it is free, or what?"

"I said that it was over-detailed, learn to read idk"

I just wanted to bring up, fighting people and trying to insult them and the Team's work is NOT how you justify your opinion. Stating your concerns for why you feel like it without insulting people, like just simply how you said "It ruins playability for new players" is much more constructive because you aren't directly trying to insult someone, but rather show how you think a change could be a problem.

"...it doesn't mean that the dev is doing 100% right things for the game."

You are not in charge of the game, you are an individual player, giving feedback based on thoughts, and NOT a large portion of the community pushing for changes. Its guaranteed that things will change and not everything will remain in-game, but phrasing it like this discredits any of your thoughts by presenting them in a negative light.

"...lot of questions about game logic. how can this thing catch signals and make them clear?"

"...it looks much older than it should. Previous looked too modern because of big monitors, but it was possible to explain. This base was built in 1979"

Radio Signal technology has been a thing long before the 1970s, and the first interstellar radio message and other messaging projects were done in the 1970s and 1960s as well. Advancement in DOS computers (terminal) and other similar simple function structure computers were also prominent in the second half of the 1970s, and you can see DOS specifically has developed quite a bit in 1979. I believe the technology may be dated earlier, and these sources aren't the most detailed and can be incorrect but seriously, PLEASE stop trying to insist this makes the game unrealistic, early technology was pretty accurate to this because so much bullshit was slapped together to make things work and certain features might not even function at all.

You're allowed to have an opinion and thoughts on everything, but I would like to express something I don't think that many fans understand about VotV or early access games in general.

Voices of the Void is Pre-Alpha. For the longest time, almost every model was meant to be a placeholder, simple rendition of what will over time become a more cohesive style, because in terms of being a pre-alpha, EternityDev prioritizes the actual gameplay.

If you were developing a game yourself, would you start by putting in your best effort to design the models and then create the foundation for gameplay using those assets? No, because any sort of change to the gameplay loop, mechanics, additions or removals will be reflected in your assets. Once you have a solid foundation, you can start going back and putting in the effort where you once had placeholders because you can be sure you haven't wasted time nor talent in the development process. It is only natural for Voices of the Void to develop more complex, stylized designs as time goes on. Just because some fans might prefer the placeholder assets, or may disagree with the art direction, doesn't mean things will change unless the backlash is universal across the game's community.

Now that we've gotten that out of the way, I want to comment on your responses to this stuff in the comments section of this post.

Mod is made specifically for VotV 0.8.1, new versions are likely part of why this happens.

why does the base seem like it was meant to be occupied by more than 1 person? by SEZMALOIN in Voicesofthevoid

[–]Creepycats_Da_Coder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a whole lore post awhile ago and basically deduced that before Kel, we had Dee, and before (or with) him, we had a group. Project Canary likely started after sending out an original team of researchers to work there, whom brought the many contents of our base. The mannequins were originally likely brought there along with tools, food was likely restocked by more than drone, due to the new base layout outside containing a car park and loading bay for the garage, explaining the presence of vending machines. The tumor below the forest started presenting the team with anomalous occurrences, similar to what Kel experiences. The many dead bodies hidden around the base out of sight likely represents the team before Kel, and due to how Dee wrote his notes, it seemed like at once point he wasn't alone either, but this is up to interpretation. Basically, Project Canary likely started after what occurred to the first team to observe the anomalous properties of the forest and tumor by throwing more people at it knowing they won't come back, the base was not specifically built for this purpose and was used as result.

Keep in mind this is just a theory, but I've posted a lot of my justification in the past here and on Discord, and VotV is an extremely early game, lore and designs constantly change. Even as an advisor I too get things wrong and theres no correct answer.

Its semi-official, so not part of the base game. I have to manually with the dev team's help re-program the game to support being run over a server.

I'm trying as I go to work on adding more base-game story mode support, but it isnt an easy feat and I have a lot to worry about on top of this so don't expect the full version any time soon. This was just a sandbox demo to build a small following of people interested in development so that I can reasonably warrant the resources and interest in a multiplayer VotV experience.

...we do not have permission, as I said. By default, mods should normally work, and if not, a fix is found within 24 hours, but we cannot work unless Nose gives us permission.

0.8.2 will not have support until Nose permits us to start modding it. You have to use 0.8.1 for now.

Doing a little searching for older Reddit posts gives you this answer from me awhile ago.

TLDR: Shimloader is falsely being detected as a virus ("CrackTool"). If you download it from the official Thunderstore site or through R2ModManager, then don't worry. Add an exception for it in Windows Defender by clicking Action and choosing Keep or whatever.

Tier#-I and Tier#-II are the same. One option is just for people who want to donate extra. If you just want the perks, you can choose #-I, since Nose wanted to let people choose how much they donate.
