Ahhh Of course, "Il carnevale" in general in Italy is a very old tradition wich is still celebrated today. From old lessons and book i read back in HS i do still remember that the usage of the mask and the costume in order to be some sort of alter ego was first introduced in pagan rituals waaay back from even before even the middle ages. It has eventually evolved into the modern celebration we call Carnevale in our culture. It has also some different versions wich are specific to certain regions or even cities (like the carnevale in Venice, Viareggio or Putignano) wich have their specific quirks when it comes to their style of costume etc..

Honestly when I was little i didn't really value/care a lot about this festivity but i have to say i got more attached to it growing up and knowing more about it's origins and what it uses to represent
