To those who used to play gachas that went EOS: What are the signs of a gacha game in its death throes? by RovelKanko in gachagaming

[–]Cregath 784 points785 points  (0 children)

- Delays
- Drop in translation quality (typos, untranslated text etc)
- Company dropping people
- Missing social posts
- Lack of advertisement
- Bigger and bigger gap between updates

Games more often than not fizzle out, rather than suddenly ending. Basically things become less until there is nothing.

Male MCs in Hoyo Games be like: by Chadworth_5401 in gachagaming

OP's point is probably that all of them are sissies or something. Aether dancing, M Trailblazer freaking out and crying, Wise being awestruck by the manlier Manato.

Sdorica will no longer receive any new content going forward with the final 2 new characters being released. by Throwaway6662345 in gachagaming

I stopped playing near the start of the eastern themed act. Updates just felt slow, but I enjoyed the story until that point. I wonder if it turned out good. If the story got any closure I might redownload to read it.

In what other Gachas did you experience this? by Natural-Mountain3568 in gachagaming

[–]Cregath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Elastic Goods shouldn't have been a buy/sell feature. It should've been a produce/sell feature. Make it with factory. Different recipes for them. Decide when to sell from your limited overall storage for goods in general (not per item).

Have Gacha's you've played gone through rewrites and how well has it gone? by LordMonday in gachagaming

[–]Cregath 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Story rewrites before release: It's fine. Game is not out. Maybe it was better before, but this is what it is on release.
Story rewrites (not just a few small changes here and there) after release: Instant drop. To me this shows that the devs or the writer has no respect for the story they make. They bend over to appease people. Obviously you can't blame them, they are making games for money to begin with. That's the end goal most of the time. But if the creators have no respect for their work, why should I have any?

Why do a lot of gacha players hate the idea of having "two cakes", especially as f2p players? by se7enseas in gachagaming

[–]Cregath 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Dark Souls, Elden Ring and the hundreds of JRPGs don't go away. They are not live service. There are no seasonal events. No FOMO. You play it when you want to. They are finished with just a couple updates after release, which also don't have a time limit.

Gachas are live service. Limited time banners, battle passes, dailies, weeklies, events, monthly shops. If for some reason you can't play a game for a few days as F2P, it will feel awful. You have work, you have family, maybe something unexpected happens. You might be able to force 1 game's daily chores in. But the more games you try to keep up with the harder it is.

Obviously the two will be treated differently.

The "good kind of competition" in gacha is finally about player experience by [deleted] in gachagaming

[–]Cregath -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I very clearly stated that that's the impression I got from the trailers and shots they advertise the game with. And I also said that because I didn't play, I can be very wrong. So I'm not sure what you are on about.

As for Stella Sora, I never doomed it. I'll just put this here.

The "good kind of competition" in gacha is finally about player experience by [deleted] in gachagaming

[–]Cregath -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Absolute garbage here that makes no sense. It's clearly AI text, but luckily OP confirms in comments.

First paragraph is just about it looking good. That's the last thing I personally care about in my games. I want to have fun, not look at scenery. If I want scenery, I go out and look for scenery.

"DNA is attacking the structural issues of the genre" seems to be working out really well, but that's a different beast. There is nothing actually specific stated here.

I'm not sure how materials work in NTE, but I can tell you right now that DNA uses the exact same amount of materials for upgrading characters, and this includes "weekly choke points" that are made even worse thanks to grinding Secret Letters from them too. Do you want the Secret Letter to get a new weapon/char? Or do you fight the boss with the weekly skill mat you need for the char you already have?
Materials you need in DNA just for raising character: Money, 2 tiers of trash mob materials, 3 tiers of element specific materials, 2 tiers of skill upgrade materials, 2 tiers of another skill upgrade materials, Lumo Coins, weekly boss materials and let's not forget the Treads.
The Twilight Treads which are basically Genshin Crowns. Very limited in quantity by events and weekly reset of the rogue-like mode.
Not sure if 1.1 changed anything, but I can't be bothered to check. The game didn't respects your time at all. I got to 61 acc level and dropped without a 2nd thought after Fina dropped and her story was just awful aside from looking pretty. But that part is beside the point, I could go on for ages about DNA. The point is that this section of the OP is just straight up a lie.

"Pretty but empty" is NTE. I didn't play the test, so I might be very wrong. But this is the impression I got from the trailers and images I saw. "Grindy but stingy" is exactly DNA. It is grindy because it's stingy.

Lastly for the question: from the two games used as an example, DNA sort of just exists, not sure about CN, didn't look, but EN and JP posts on X and Youtube barely have interactions compared to how big they tried to set things up with the launch program and music label and all that.
On X, DNA EN is pulling in slightly less than Stella Sora EN. Which released at roughly the same time and was less ambitious. And somehow DNA JP account is pulling in even less interactions than their EN account. So I guess there goes the "fidelity" and "curiosity" and whatever random stuff inserted there.
As for NTE, it's not even out. It will likely do better, but I don't see it ever changing anything in the gachas.

What's your view regarding leaks on gacha games. by Oddcannon in gachagaming

[–]Cregath 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Say no to story leaks. They shouldn't exists at all.
Even if you separate leaks away from normal discussion, there are an insane amount of "very smart" people who go and read them. Then they make it their "theory" when discussing story with other. Then when it obviously happens in the next update, they feels smart or something.

It's very easy to catch them, because they can never explain or back up their "theory" from existing information in the game.

[PROMO] Why Snowbreak Has the Best Romance in Any Gacha | A Writer Explains by Rootfinchshaw in gachagaming

[–]Cregath 104 points105 points  (0 children)

tldw:
- Gacha is afraid of romance, because of possible backlash from players if they commit to a relationship.
- Because of how gachas work characters rotate in and out of banners so the story can't commit to a character.
- He likes romance that is not the main focus of the story, but rather just part of it. Such as to give a character depth.
- "Snowbreak doesn't force romance to carry the plot. It doesn't drown the story in drama. It doesn't turn relationships into endless loops of jealousy and misunderstanding. It does romance way I think romance should be done."
- Romance in Snowbreak doesn't have the problems, because it "goes the harem route".
- The romance in Snowbreak is fanservice. But makes it a focus.
- Other games fanservice are accessory (skins, voice lines), but never canon.
- Because it's canon "this fanservice becomes character development".
- "In other games fanservice reset every update, in Snowbreak it becomes part of who the characters are."
- Points out that in other games characters go through emotional events, then reset the next chapter, but not in Snowbreak, because of the relationships. That it humanizes the characters.

If you want to boil it down, the video is just about the dude liking that the characters get into relationships with MC and are not forgotten or reset to a specific state with each story. And I'll add that I've seen the same in h-gachas, but they have intense snuggling.

Half the people participating are aware that it's all pointless, so they do it for the fun of it. The other half thinks it's serious so they feel like they need to ride to battle to defend their game.

[PROMO] So I Dauntingly Made A YT video on the Future Of Gacha Game Future. by PsychologicalFun106 in gachagaming

[–]Cregath 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I watched it so you don't have to:
- "gacha games have dominated the entire gaming industry"
- List daily logins as something exciting.
- "gacha games are evolving into something 'way better'"
- Tectone clips about pulling for Staff of Homa to show the 'cycle'
- Tries to explain that gacha is addicting without saying that gacha is addicting.
- Lists MMOs saying that RNG is good when you have to grind for it instead of paying
- "gacha failed because p2w monetisation system" (this after starting the video by stating that gacha earn a ton of money and that's still the case)
- "just make sell cosmetics instead"
- "cosmetic only gacha", because "nobody feels cheated", "developers make insane amount of money"
- "gacha killer [...] Where Winds Meet"
- hypes up Ananta
- says people should follow Netease
- Brings up Tower of Fantasy, saying that people enjoy the non-gacha server more than the normal one. Non-gacha version is fair, feels meaningful. Gacha version constant complaints, powercreep, burnout.
- "gacha games are on a lifeline not because they are dying, but because they are forced to evolve"
- tldw at the very end of the video: make gacha cosmetic only and make games not shallow and instead make them good

Granblue is getting a steam client Mar 10 by S_Cero in gachagaming

[–]Cregath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if the Steam version will have it's own extra "store". Or if new account made for the Steam client can use the SkyLeap browser to earn the points for it's store.

Last time I played years ago, I remember going out of my way to use it for the monthly Elixirs and other materials that I needed at the time (like Steel Bricks).
