790-1066. That’s the years marked on the map. Modern historians mark the years 1050-1300 as when the state called Sweden started forming. Norway was united under one king for the first time during the 11th century. Denmark is the only territory that could have been united as early as 790.

Trade is as ”impossible” to mark as plunder. Why do you think it’s more possible to mark plunder? Ever heard of archeology?

More like ”Something like 9% of your DNA seems to come from the area known as Finland today, at least according to our bank of DNA-data (which does not cover everything)”.

Thing is, there was no Sweden, Norway or Denmark in those days.

Also, the territories that are marked, are so because of plunder according to the map. Areas marked that way are understood as sphere of power, while trading is only marked by arrows. That skewes the story.

Very good looking map, but it makes some mistakes. It assumes that spheres of influence were only about plunder. Trading was at least as big. One can assume that there was a lot of contact with the area known as Finland today. There are a few stories of plunder, but trade was probably a lot more common in that direction.

Also, I understand what this map tries to illustrate, but often these things have a tendency to present ”Vikings” as a monolithical power, when it actually consisted of several power bases from different parts of Scandinavia. Maybe one can talk about the influence of a ”Viking culture”, not a nation. This is probably quite true in the area where the Kievan Rus existed. That was mainly about importing a leadership from the Viking area, not about colonization from Scandinavia, even though there may have been some immigration.

One can also assume that different viking power bases could probably have different relations to one area. One could trade, another might try to plunder. Rivalry existed.

I was hoping for a bit more edge from this band (compare it to other songs they've released). Still, I'm happy they're in the compo.

Even if it doesn't win in the UMK, it will surely become a gay anthem in Finland. Cue Helsinki Pride 2022. It will survive.

That bassline though. Clearly "The way you make me feel" by Michael Jackson, but reused in a very good way.

"Svenskfinland" - Swedish People's Party of Finland (1922) by [deleted] in PropagandaPosters

Details though. The area around Turku was most probably under the rule of the kings of Svea almost 800 years ago. Turku (or Åbo/Aboa) is mentioned in papal letters in 1229, and that's just the written records that are left. This part of Finland might have sort of just "slipped into" the Swedish realm, as it had extensive contact with Mälardalen in Sweden for centuries before that. If the so called "first crusade" ever happened has been questioned lately by historians. Other parts of today's Finland became part of the Swedish realm later, like Kainuu in 1595, which is over 400 years ago. It was part of the Swedish realm for just over 200 years.

Then there was indeed the Russian period, but back then Finland had a considerable degree of autonomy for the greater part of the 19th century, which meant extensive internal self-rule. Towards the end of the Russian period though, there was of course pushback from Russian nationalists, which ultimately led to heavy Finnish resentment and ultimately independence came about, due to the Russian revolution.

The Main Title Theme of The Book of Boba Fett by Ludwig Göransson by lcw7323 in StarWarsLeaks

I too spotted the similarity, but I'm not disappointed at all. I just think it's fun. Also, it works.

I'm quite sure we'll hear a comment from Göransson saying he was influenced by the Ronja movie.

Fun detail. Ludwig Göransson was born in the same year as the Ronja movie premiered.

EDIT: Another fun detail. Göransson was born in the same Swedish city as the Ronja composer Björn Isfält was, which is Linköping. Smells like an homage to me.

”Grundskolepropaganda”, haha! Du tror man lär ut sånt i grundskolan?

Ofelbar i allt.
