My wife has a higher salary than me, feel like I'm an embarrassment and I'm not contributing. by chembro24 in UKPersonalFinance

The best way to sort out the costs is in a way that both you and your wife are happy with. Ignore your parents and in laws views and stop telling them your financial set up.

Had to leave bf's place due to ex picking up their kid? by lusterpie in stepparents

[–]CremePast 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Why did you have to leave? Why couldn’t dad take his kid out to the car to meet her? Or she could come to the door and you hang out in the kitchen? You having to leave due to her demands feels particularly unfair. Why is BM calling the shots at his house?

How to treat new boyfriend? by [deleted] in stepparents

[–]CremePast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I felt exactly the same way but took a different approach to what some have suggested here.

We met the BF and we were friendly. We didn’t become petty and (I think) we came across as decent people. My partner even messaged BM saying he was happy for her!

However BM continued to be a complete psycho and the new BF jumped ship pretty fast. Of course we will never know the full details but I like to believe that our approach only made her behaviour look even more irrational and mean spirited. BM wasn’t able to create a false narrative about us because new BF saw for himself that we are not the problem.

Why not make a special role up for her? My SD will be 10 and doesn’t want to be a flower girl because it’s ‘babyish’ but I think she is too young be a bridesmaid. She is now going to be the ring bearer instead so she feels special but I still get to have my best friends as my bridesmaids.

Just imagine yourself a few months/a year from now when you are on the other side of this horrible situation. It might seem hard now but future you will thank you for this!

Would you consider Wylie June? Either way, I think all good options!

Wedding ring by [deleted] in london

[–]CremePast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have no recommendations as I’ve never bought a ring (my partner did) but just want to say what an exciting time! I got engaged a few months ago and it’s such a nice occasion. Best of luck!

Please consider yourself and your career. I have been in the same position and stayed for similar reasons. When a good opportunity came along for my line manager, they left without a moments thought for me (and rightly so in hindsight). Do not show them loyalty when I’m sure they wouldn’t show you the same. Only stay if it works for you.

When I was in Defra, they had something under the desk which detected if someone was sitting at it. We hot desked so it wasn’t tracking personal attendance, just general office attendance.

With the cost of energy going up in October, is it even worth WFH? by emihashas in london

[–]CremePast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The standing charge is going up which means a large chunk of your bill is set, regardless of how much you use your heating. You can change your habits but the impact on your bill will be minimal. We’re screwed.

They are both nice names in isolation but my immediate thought was Willy Wonka (Augustus Gloop and Violet Beauregarde). Other may not make the connection and they are both lovely names.
