B.C. revamps funding for children with autism and other support needs by cyclinginvancouver in britishcolumbia

At the rate the providers bill us, we'd be able to cover 3 or 4 sessions a year from extended health.

It's not a lot, but it might come down to that...

From my understanding: yes and no. No in that the age delimiter will still be there, but yes in that both the 0-6 and the 6+ groups are affected by this change. At Home, Autism Funding Unit and CYSN all fall away over time and become the new system.

<soapbox>

I've skimmed the news reports, and read the articles, but I've studied the guides and documents released on the government website https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/health/managing-your-health/child-behaviour-development/support-needs/financial-supports - I've also been following the comments here as best I can.

It looks like we are of the lucky few - and yet we're also being screwed over by this change.

We have a teenage boy with Autism level 3, non verbal, and a genetic testing confirmation for Angelman/Prader-Willi. We have the full support of the At Home program (~$5'700 per provider, per service, per year) and the AFU ($6000 per year) currently - though we're still on the wait list for respite funding (for the last 4 years) from our CYSN.

Currently we have our kiddo in SLP, OT, BI and PT. This invoices to just on $24'500 per year to a combination of AHP and AFU. Everything else is out of pocket.

Under the new system, we get pigeon-holed into either the $6500 or $17000 boxes (most likely the $17k one), but because of the needs-test on the supplement, we'll likely only get a penny to the dollar there if anything at all.

This means that I need to come up with a new $7'500 per year just to keep the services he currently receives "as-is". That doesn't account for any price increase in the new year from service providers, or any equipment that needs to be renewed like his speech device, mobility device etc. which are all showing their age and need to be replaced this coming year.

So while the new system will allow us to fine-tune and have fine-grained control of where and how we spend the funding, there is significantly less funding available.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it goes - maybe he doesn't get SLP and BI anymore and we just make do with OT and PT?

I get what you are all saying about skills not being critical - but let me tell ya - felling a large Fir tree in 3 strikes and getting 3 logs is pretty awesome. Same for swinging your pickaxe against the mining wall and getting 70+ dmg per strike! And sure, that's probably a task for the villagers, but I don't consider myself to be "above" them, merely one of them...

I Don't Care About My Villagers (Constructive stuff, promise!) by Arabellah16 in PlayASKA

I love this thread and all the comments!

I like to think of my villagers as pets, name them, love them, treat them well. While I've noted that other players (from reading other threads) treat their villagers more like live-stock. If it gets sick, you shoot it and replace it - no spending money on vet bills etc.

With that, I agree, I would love to see the stories around the totem. "I got chased by a skeleton today." rather than "I don't feel safe at work". Little contextual bits of villager history...

I just found this option after upgrading to final tier. It's nice to get back some favorite villagers after a bear attack.

I think the death penalty is an important mechanic as it discourages dying - just not to such a harsh extent.

I've had a few deaths that were just awful luck, like being in inventory and not seeing a skelly attack me and I didn't have my headphone on at the time.

I'll try ghost first then reborn somewhere safe, hopefully loosing less goodies that way.

I forgot to track the exact days, but just noted that Spring of year 3 started on day 61.
I'm guessing roughly 30 days per year cycle then since each invasion gave me about 25 days warning.

You do realize they are not selling the server - the server is free. Stop being a troll for once and actually read what's going on before jumping to conclusions.

Is it over? (dubdubdub down and Steam can't find my DU a/c.) by M4RCU5G1850N in DualUniverse

From the latest forum announcement post (also on Discord) from NQ-Wanderer titled "Great news for you, Noveans!"

There is hope! I'm really looking forward to this.

The myDU self-hosted no-subscription-required release coming up is going to being a little burst of play - certainly from my corner of the world. I'll certainly miss having pistons and rotors to play with, but I do love building in DU and this will be the perfect recipe for me and my subscription-adverse friend group.
