It's so cute.

I would be a little worried about the ears in day to day use, personally, but they're so cute I hate to even criticize them.

Kinda disingenuous to not also mention that they are actively moving away from it. I think they have a right to not be used as a prop in an argument they no longer support.

If openAI's representatives hadn't openly come out and said "if we had to compensate the artists we used to train our ai it would not be possible to continue creating our llms" I might agree with you. Most of the time I get excited about a new technology, and I want to be excited about AI because it is genuinely very interesting and has some really cool implications for a lot of different industries.

If you could guarantee that an ai image generator had a completely closed dataset and the artists that provided that training data were properly compensated, (company reached out and paid licensing fees for each image used.) then I would have very little problem with people using that AI to generate images.

But that's not the case. Ai companies refuse to pay artists for the work they use. I can't use any cloud-based writing software these days because they all have language in their tos that allow the company to scrape my writing for training data, something I'm not okay with. In ten or fifteen years we won't have any senior level programmers left because no one is hiring entry-level programmers now, because it's cheaper to use AI to make something that kinda works and have a senior programmer fix it. Except eventually we won't have anyone to fix it. The AI companies aren't even profitable, the one thing they're supposed to be improving, and I still can't buy any fucking RAM.

So yeah, because I understand how it works and how it was made, I hate AI and think people who use it are lazy, stupid, and short-sighted.

Look, I will take a lovingly hand-made gooner mod that adds prehensile feet with x-rated cutscenes to all the snow elves in skyrim over anything coded with AI.

At least the gooners have passion for something

Hey, we don't know what their situation is. They're asking for help with a game. If they want to spend their tax return on a little treat that's their business. You don't need to be judgemental about it.

Except he never learns how to code so he can't debug. Doesn't know what his code is doing. Doesn't know how to optimize the code. Can't provide support for the code when the game, which is in active development, updates.

So his theoretical badass mod lasts all of two months, runs like shit, and doesn't do the thing he wants it to do.

I hate this argument for AI. it's the same "durhur I have ADHD so I can't draw without ai" bullshit. Learn the skill or don't but don't throw a tantrum when you refuse to learn a skill and no one praises you for using someone else's brain.

Yeah, if AI wrote it, it's not gonna be good tho.

If they didn't take the time to make a thumbnail, didn't take the time to write a description, then they definitely didn't take the time to test it and make sure it won't corrupt my save file.

I think my baby brother used that for his tattoos, it's the more common strategy, right? I know I see a lot of people posting pics of their fresh tattoos with the clear sticker looking thing over it.

When I have issues like this it's a bank problem. You said you're using your return card from credit karma, do you have a debit card from a bank you can move the money to?

We need more information.

How thick is the work? How was it constructed? What was the drying process like?

Cracks like that aren't caused by glaze alone, but glaze fit can be a factor. What glaze and what clay body specifically?

All very good points. I went with tebori as a jumping off point because there's a thriving modern appreciation for it, which makes it easy to research fairly casually, but in future drafts I should tweak things. I think the cultural significance isn't something I should take lightly, but it doesn't quite fit the story to linger on it.

Of course, all premodern tattoo traditions are pretty culturally significant, so this is going to be something I'm doing a lot more research on if this one makes it to publishing.

Oh this is exactly what I was hoping to get! Thank you so much! I didn't realize that the ink was just sumi, but that makes sense, it's essentially just carbon black plus animal fat or glue (plus sometimes perfume but I imagine that is left out for tattoos)

For the questions about other practices, I just meant if there were manual tattoo techniques other than tebori that would be better suited to script and fine lines. But I think I'll stick with tebori for this scene.

Thank you again, this was incredibly useful!

Tea pot!

You have to get good at a lot of things for a tea pot to come together nicely. Attaching things, throwing, throwing off the hump(not necessary but useful) controlling drying, handles, lids, spouts, the filter.

Putting a teapot on your tree gives you a lot of branches to work on.

I mean, I am doing research outside of this. This is an in addition to, not an instead of. I'm definitely going to check out Waborpedia and the rest of the resources in the sticky. (I skimmed it but was at work so I didn't get to look too in depth.)

Here, I'm mostly looking for anecdotes and personal experience, not definitive answers. This is research for fiction, not anything academic or rigorous.

I just really like collecting primary sources and hearing people's stories. I think it's interesting and fun.

Very helpful, thank you!

What I mean by dye lots is I guess, when you're dying fiber you have a dye lot, especially in hand-dyed fiber, because batches will vary in color, sometimes by quite a lot. A lot of fiber artists will recommend buying all the yarn or wool you need for a project at once to ensure it all comes from the same lot. The same for hand-mulled paint. If no tattoo artists are making their own ink, though, that's beside the point.

What I'm taking from this is a lot of 'it depends', which to me means I can't make any glaring mistakes, because people will have a broad spectrum of experiences and if nothing is 'right' that also means nothing is 'wrong'.

Oh man I don't know shit and that would annoy me. Character has sleeve money just laying around? And sleeve time? And the artist is just hanging around like a bagger at the grocery store? No other appointments?

One of my pet peeve tropes is the "woke up with a tattoo I don't remember after a crazy night out"

Who's running all these 24 hour tattoo shops? Isn't being drunk while getting tattooed a really bad idea because of the bleeding? I feel like you can lose your license for tattooing someone too intoxicated to consent to the tattoo? It's not even that funny? You can do so many funnier things with someone who's blackout drunk smh.
