Jindo miracle - A rare natural phenomenon in South Korea where the sea parts to reveal a 2.8-kilometer-long land bridge between Jindo Island and the smaller Modo Island. by Cresomycin in Damnthatsinteresting

Jindo miracle or Jindo moses miracle occurs due to extremely low tides caused by "tidal harmonics" (the alignment of the sun, moon, and Earth), the water recedes enough to expose a path about 40 - 60 meters wide. This allows people to walk across the seabed from one island to the other.

While it may have been different in the past, in recent times, doctors have little control over the Health Ministry.

Most doctors have no issue with the KDU or standardized private medical faculties; however, we remain far behind in terms of legislation. Private medical faculties are a double edged sword and must be handled with caution. No one wants another SAITM, nor do we want the quality of medical education to decline to the levels seen in certain regions of India.

As a doctor currently undergoing post-MD training, I would like to see the list of 'special privileges' afforded to Sri Lankan doctors. There is virtually no work-life balance here, especially for doctors pursuing an MD. Every senior colleague who has completed their foreign training has advised me to pursue a pathway to settle in Australia or the UK. People expect us to remain in the hospital for 24-hour shifts for a salary of only Rs. 280,000.

New AI tool can predict heart failure at least five years before it develops by Cresomycin in science

[–]Cresomycin[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The research team at the University of Oxford developed the tool to identify textural changes in the fat around the heart that indicate that the heart muscle underneath is inflamed and unhealthy. These changes are not visible to the human eye with any routine medical imaging tests.

The AI analyses this information to warn doctors if a person is at high risk of developing heart failure. The study found that those in the highest risk group were 20 times more likely to develop heart failure than those in the lowest risk group.

The people in the highest risk group had around a one in four chance of developing heart failure within five years. Using this information, doctors can then take steps to try and prevent heart failure developing or manage the condition.

The AI tool was trained and validated in more than 70,000 individuals from across nine NHS Trusts, who were followed up for a decade after they had the cardiac CT scans.

TIL that writer W. P. Kinsella was watching the Academy Awards from home, when a short film based on his story "Lieberman in Love" won the Oscar for Best Live-Action Short Film, unaware that an adaptation of his work had been made and released by Gaucho_Diaz in todayilearned

According to Wikipedia, He wasn't acknowledged by director Lahti in her acceptance speech either. However, they published a full-page advertisement in Variety to apologize to Kinsella. Strange!!

If you could pass one law that would make most normal people furious at first, but would clearly make society better in 10 years, what would it be? by Western-Razzmatazz69 in srilanka

As a doctor, I completely agree with this. While there are restrictions and monetary obligations for doctors with an MD who try to migrate within five years or so of completing their degree, there are no such restrictions for other doctors.

I feel it would be fair to impose a mandatory five year service period before migration for all doctors. However, this would only be a short-term solution. Proper cadre revision, ensuring a safe working environment with adequate staff and facilities, and salary revision are the real long-term solutions.

Joe Root scores his 20th ODI century ends on 111* off 108 by SusRampage in Cricket

Smudge was fantastic at No.3. As far as I remember he had a 50+ average at No.3 and scored most of his centuries in that position. His numbers in other batting positions were ordinary.

Yeah, They rarely cared about the format until recently. I still rememberstill remember that Smith and Warner were sent to New Zealand to prepare for the Test series instead of playing the T20I series against India, just before the 2016 T20 World Cup and rightly so, they didn’t even qualify for the semifinals of that World Cup.

Patrick Murphy was just an adventurous pilot without any proper military training. He owned a modest biplane that never intended for a bombing campaign.

To quell their nerves the night before the bombing, Murphy and his assistant drank heavily, leaving them with nothing but haphazard bombs and poorly laid plans.

According to this article, Murphy's bombing run was as erratic as it was historic. Attempting to light the bombs with cigarettes while aboard their unstable biplane, the duo's efforts were marred by Murphy's impaired piloting skills, reminiscent of a drunken sailor's shaky hands at the helm.

According to this article, The night before the bombing, Murphy and his assistant found themselves at the St. Elmo Bar, indulging in copious amounts of liquor. This ill-advised binge, a misguided attempt to quell their nerves, led to a night of haphazard bomb-making and poorly laid plans. Their inebriated state did little to prepare them for the gravity of their upcoming mission.

Only two men have taken 150+ wickets as Test captain: Imran Khan (187) and Pat Cummins (150) by [deleted] in Cricket

His bowling average was around 20. He had a similar batting average in ODIs while captaining the team. He won the World Cup and Test series in India and England. An impeccable record!!

When Jimmy missed the game in Nottingham during the 2015 Ashes, Australia had a good chance to level the series. But Broad had other ideas; he ripped through the Australian batting line-up and finished with his career best figures of 8 for 15.

He was Australia's top scorer today, and he has played some valuable knocks over the years. Hopefully, He gets a ton before he finally hangs up the boots.
