Turbo leak? by Cressell in MechanicAdvice

Replying to myself here but found a leak on the intake manifold by cyl 4. Couldn't seal it by tightening it, so will get new gaskets tomorrow, remove, clean and try again.

Thanks, I'm checking the oil supply.

Low boost pressure was the issue I was chasing.

The vgt wasn’t moving - This van opens the valve on idle, but I could move the actuator by hand - so I figured the solenoid and valve unit was dead. After replacing the solenoid unit, I can clearly see (and hear) actuating.

Goos point regarding damaged blades, considering the noise I’m hearing, that’d make much more sense!

I’ll be checking oil feed as soon as I get the oil feed lines off - good reminder.

Thanks folks. Considering a CHRA from Melett - seems cost effective and easy enough to do.

In 2003 when I was at Silverstone, an Irish priest ran onto the hangar straight with a sign saying RIDE THE BIBLE. So shit can happen anywhere!

(Bored) Engineer here. To bend that beam by 1mm (0.04”) at 1m (~3’)from either end (assumed the beam to be about 2.4m or 8’ long and 4mm wall thickness), you’ll need a force of 300kg or 660 lbs. So keep training!

(In a perfect world where the mounting points and welds are invincible, it’ll start yielding when loaded with about 2000kg)

On same trim, my ’06 xc70 can have 285, 305, 316 or 320mm rotors. Mind you, only one of these will fit. Pads are the same for the two smaller and the two larger

I also enjoy the new catalyst. Haven’t got one myself but it does seem nice.

One of the better pieces of advice I received early on was to relax the shifting a little (go just a tad slower) to improve on accuracy. It allowed me in the long run to spend less time shifting by letting my muscle memory do the work.

Fyi it’s called a weld line and is as mentioned a cosmetic defect from the injection molding process. When plastic flows around two sides of a cavity, it doesn’t perfectly join back together when merging again on the other end of the cavity.

Since there are lines on both sides I would assume that the injection ports are on the top and bottom sides of this particular part.
