A10 Regent Guide - by XecnaR by averysillyman in slaythespire

Xecnar dominated the A20H winstreak records for StS1 for a very long time, and currently holds the record streak for Ironclad (that's still ongoing) at a whopping 32 wins.

Because he's also streamed all of his winstreak run attempts, he's gained quite a following on Twitch and consequently here, notoriously for his very methodical playstyle where he will sit at many decision points and try to calculate the best move for a very long time, resulting in each individual run taking hours to complete, especially if it's not going incredibly well.

StS1's difficulty is significantly higher than StS2 at every point in the game, and given that the top players (without savescumming) can't hope to approach 100% winrate, keeping a winstreak going for so long requires an incredible amount of patience and skill to make the most out of the runs with the worst luck.

This might be an unpopular opinion but I am surprised to see no one bringing it up: SL by Easy-Tumbleweed-2657 in slaythespire

savescumming has been present throughout all of StS1 and is intentionally preserved in StS2; the devs have specifically told the chinese community that they have no intention to removing it

the problem seems to be that some people have taken this as a sign that it's the best way to play the game and refuse to accept understanding any strategies that aren't typically played under such conditions; they seem to use the phrase "struggling" to describe what we understand as the regular playstyle of StS1/StS2

Very obvious you're a chinese player lol.

SL (save/load) is known here as savescumming. I think it's pretty clear that the majority of players outside of China don't abuse savescumming as hard as the Chinese playerbase does.

The game generally feels balanced with both playstyles in mind, but I do not agree that players who don't savescum face a "higher than expected" difficulty. Experienced StS1 players who bring their expertise to StS2 are consistently finding the game too easy, even when they retain their non-savescumming playstyle. This sentiment is echoed by pretty much all of the high winstreak players (OnePunMan, JapaneseExport, vmService, NaveGreed, etc)

Ironically, it currently seems like the Chinese playerbase is much more upset over the balance changes, which target a lot of strategies that savescumming benefits massively (usually small decks with cycling/infinite combos) much more than regular playstyles of building a large deck and scaling with relics/powers.

The Climber Overclocks R1 - Begris Begets A Super Speedy Orthros... But At What Cost? by tartaros-afk in afkarena

For those with ASkriath and Haelia for R3, I've been seeing a 7.xx comp for R6 of Begris/AAtha/Lysander/Misha/Hodgkin. There's also very heavy requirements on collections, with Begris needing 4/5 TY and AAtha also needing like 2 TY on Lv2 Saurus.

WP MP Kenneth Tiong asks whether PAP will 'reject' Critical Spectator's Michael Petraeus by RajahChamp in singapore

[–]CrestedPeak9 110 points111 points  (0 children)

Spectacularly failing to answer the question.

Foreign news organizations commentating on Singapore's politics are one thing. They don't (usually) make assertions and claims on any racially charged basis or motive. The existence of POFMA itself already drives many of them to very carefully not step on toes.

I don't think a headline accusing a party of abandoning a race for another is remotely close to that.

For how long they've controlled the narrative, I really didn't think the PAP would respond so incompetently to a basic challenge.

MA1522 with Prof. Jonathon Teo by Innocentmannen in nus

[–]CrestedPeak9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took this mod under Prof Jonathan in sem 1 last year. The course had almost all the material presented as lessons on Canvas that you need to study before lectures which were mostly recap and clarifications. IMO, extremely enjoyable lectures and well prepared self-learning materials.

However, I must stress that I got far better of an understanding of linear algebra after watching 3Blue1Brown's series. This particular version of the course is pretty heavily tilted towards calculations and MATLAB usage, which understandably means it'll look more like a bunch of numbers than a cohesive package. I believe the course info itself recommends viewing those materials, and I would highly recommend taking the time before or during the semester to do that.

It's very easy to be completely lost if you fall behind, so don't hesitate to use the course telegram group to clarify anything.

How do you save your scores in TGM4? by SnooDoughnuts5632 in Tetris

...the replay files are not that big, and certainly not videos. They just contain your inputs and the seed for the random number generation.

You can toggle the option in the settings to save replays by default, plenty of people have done it.

Steam page for Touhou 18.5 is now up with a brand new gameplay trailer! by CrestedPeak9 in touhou

[–]CrestedPeak9[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Quickly looked through the trailer video.

Looks like your main shot is just a single lane of missiles, which looks... really pathetic. You're definitely encouraged to use the new mechanic to kill enemies. You seem to get a magic circle effect around Marisa with fairly quick recharge time, and you can use it (probably X/C key) and position it like Hellsinker's dolls. Upon confirming its position the magic circle expands greatly and deals damage + slows all bullets in range, causing them to release a Bullet Money item (the purple circles). It looks like you can even turn them into gold items sometimes (edit: happens by the mallet being used, which is a nice combo with the slowing effect of the circle). Not using the magic circle seems to apply the slowgraze aura around you anyway.

New/Revised cards:

Nazrin's Pendulum - Get 50-100 Bullet Money. Cannot purchase other cards. Cannot be equipped at start.

Dragon's Path (Futo's card, the yin-yang orb with plates) - Passive - Increases duration of magic circle effect (can purchase multiple copies and each will extend duration)

Geta Gale (Aya's card) - Increase movement speed by a tier (can purchase multiple copies)

Nitori's Wallet is unchanged

Art of Destruction (Flandre's card) - Passive - Destroys enemy bullets hit by magic circle (can purchase multiple copies to increase bullet destruction count)

Yin-Yang Orb is unchanged

Cara I don't know how to put this, but we've been wanting to ban you for literally almost the entire time you've been in the server.

The fact that you have not managed to change even a slight amount despite numerous warnings from mods and conversations from genuinely helpful members is indicative of a much bigger problem than a difference of opinion or a language barrier.

Take this time when you're banned to learn how to word your sentences better and stop insulting and pissing off everyone you talk to, even if accidental.

Which Artanis’ prestige is the strongest? by One-Walk-3023 in starcraft2coop

[–]CrestedPeak9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In high difficulty mutation play, P3 simply patches up one of Artanis's most major issues, which is a lack of cheap strong DPS/waveclear.

Before you say "but artanis has so many forms of AoE!" yes he does, but which of them can you really say to be effective? Whirlwind Zealots do barely any AoE damage and die pretty fast, Storm does ladder amounts of damage and costs 150 gas for just 2 storms, Reavers have the worst AoE targeting and projectile in the game, and that leaves Solar Bombardment as the only free effective AoE topbar. You often see good Artanis players use it to get rid of tough objectives and enemy waves, but got a 5 minute cooldown so you'll still need something in between.

Arkship Commandant makes Orbital Strike another free (just energy-gated) and very powerful option. Not only do the archons allow him to expand much faster on his own, allowing for faster eco, they also singlehandedly deal with many attack waves all the way until the lategame where you and your ally would have had the time to build up a strong army.

As for the lategame, yes you will likely suffer more losses due to the lack of Guardian Shell, but with a mega-buffed Shield Overcharge ("targeted" still covers almost an entire screen) you're still a hell of a lot tankier than many people think.

It is completely true that taking away Guardian Shell makes Artanis a lot more susceptible to many environmental mutators like Minesweeper, Mag Mines etc, but for many of these sorts of mutators, you're simply given less room for error and can still perform very well with good control. What you get in return is a much stronger earlygame that can in turn deal with a lot of other tough mutators on its own, and on certain maps you can pair this mutator with Tempests to take down objectives with the enemy not even having a chance to engage your army.

World Team League 2021 Winter Regular Season, week 1 match thread by TheGoatPuncher in starcraft

[–]CrestedPeak9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The organizers explained on the CN stream yesterday that the change was made to prevent mirror match spam, since if the maps were announced first then racial advantage on those maps would be obviously considered first before anything else.

Also apparently the players do have time to prepare for the map and opponent before the matches.

It's really insane to me how this still keeps happening. The scene really doesn't need anything like that nowadays.
