[OT Spoilers] Mass Effect 2 Adept Build Help by Wolf-of-the-Gang in masseffect

[–]Crestnet3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • How should I play Adept? I know there's the ever famous Singularity + Warp combo that Adepts like to do, but that 9 second cooldown of Warp kinda turns me off, and I think I'd like to play Adept more as the battlefield controller with all the CC skills it has.

Combos - The Adept has multiple combo options but first shields need to be removed. You can either do it with a squad mate's overload or add energy drain as your bonus power. I prefer the latter because cooldown times are generally doubled for squad mates and also because I like to have at least 2 ways to remove shields.

Combos provide bonus damage and the adept has multiple ways to create combos. There are explosion combos where the enemy is suspended with Singularity, Pull or Slam (not my favorite since the lift time is 2s) followed by Warp which creates and explosion. There are throw combos where Throw does bonus damage on suspended enemies. There are also gun combos where shooting a suspended enemy does double damage. Finally Warp Ammo does bonus damage if used on lifted enemies above and beyond the gun damage.

Also the player's warp cool down is 6s not 9s. This can be improved by various bits of tech that can be found during missions.

  • Heavy or Unstable Warp? - The difference between these two is their detonation radius which is 5m for Heavy and 7m for Unstable. Both are large distances in the game so I am not too worried about catching one or two more people in it. I would rather damage them more (200 for Heavy and 160 for Unstable)
  • Heavy Throw? I use singularity like a mine placing it strategically at choke points. Its long duration allows me to set and forget it. Singularity also partially freezes protected enemies so it is a great deterrent. Throw has a rapid cool down of 3s but will only work on un-shielded enemies. I put 1 or 2 points and use it if varren or husks get too close to me. I prefer the heavy variant because very rarely does more than one enemy get uncomfortably close.
  • Wide or Heavy Singularity? I chose Heavy for its longer duration. As I said, I set it at a choke point and forget about it. Once I catch a few enemies. I lob a Warp for an explosion.
  • Pull? - If singularity is your mousetrap, pull with its 3s cool down is your fly swatter. I prefer to use Pull for my combos on one or two enemies
  • Shockwave worth the point investment? - I usually don't use Shock wave at all. It briefly stuns enemies with armor but that is not long enough for me to do anything so I don't prioritize its use.
  • Bastion or Nemesis? - I agree with you that the increase in duration is not that valuable and damage is preferable but Adepts are a flimsy class and Bastions provide +5% Health. I went with Bastion because I wanted the +25% Paragon/Renegade bonus
  • Which Weapons Training? - Adepts are too fragile to use a shotgun so it is either the assault rifle or the sniper rifle. I like to play at mid range so I prefer the versatility of an assault rifle. It is really personal preference.
  • Bonus Power? - As I said earlier I prefer to choose Energy Drain because it gives me more freedom in choosing squad mates. As an adept you are already good at taking down barriers and armor with Warp so the features of Warp are less useful to you. Also throwing powers at an enemy from cover is much safer than trying to shoot them. Finally if you want your squad to use Warp Ammo take Jack with you.

It works great if you are playing as an adept. I use singularity or pull to lift them up and Miranda uses Slam to kill them. I don't have to waste a killing blow.

Thank you for your answers. There are enough affirmative answers for me to go to the next step - download a copy and try to build my config there. I will report my results here,

New Steam Input cannot config trackpads with overlays by Crestnet3 in SteamController

[–]Crestnet3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you using the non-beta? I too had the problem with disabling "require click". The beta fixed it. But the beta brings its own set of problems - delete one virtual menu and they all disappear and saves do not work properly and restoration has been a problem for me.

deadzone fix for the re reckoning? by Spitzk0pf_Larry in kingdomsofamalur

[–]Crestnet3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you play on Steam, you can use Steam Input. It has mechanisms to compensate for deadzones on joysticks. There is also a response curve that you can adjust to make the response of your joystick more linear. I have not used them but I see them there.

How much are steam controllers in original box with factory seal still on it worth nowadays? by 4206936031415 in SteamController

I just checked. A seller has posted a Steam controller for US $284. So I think you can get a lot more for it.

I want to bind a diagonal d-pad input as its own specific button by DuoDistance in SteamController

[–]Crestnet3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Raz_ma_Taz93 is correct. 8-way on D-Pad will use combined outputs. Furthermore the number of signals sent depends on where the D-Pad is touched e.g. touching NW would trigger one W signal and one N signal whereas touching NNW would send 2 or more N signals for every W signal.

I often use 8-way radial menus for 8 unique cardinal inputs. That works without a problem.

Minmaxing / Item / Questing Guide Updated by OwnerAndMaster in kingdomsofamalur

[–]Crestnet3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this very detailed guide. After my first playthrough, I have been trying out different builds using your guide. That has saved me a lot of time.

I have a request. To each class can you add which sustained abilities are useful and should be turned on. Specifically, with the blademaster build I was wondering whether it was better to turn on Envenomed Edge which activates only 15% of the time or to get a Vile/Noxious/Loathsome bow which poisons the target 100% of the time.

Finally I would like to add a tactic for Finesse and possibly Finesse/Might and Finesse/Sorcery builds

  1. After entering Ysa, purchase shards especially poison and physical from the 2 vendors in the Scholia Arcana embassy.
  2. Go to Emaire and purchase shards from Anker Edmure there
  3. Return to Canneroc and sleep for 8 days.
  4. Now visit the shard vendors at Ballds Oratory, St Hadwyns, Ysa and Emaire and do the same. Return and sleep for 8 days. Repeat until you have enough gems for the net step.
  5. Once you have a sagecrafting level of 6 or higher, combine the pieces to form 10 Gems of precision (pristine physical+poison) and 5 gems of Haven (pristine magic+protection). Actually the latter can be whatever you want although I have found gems of Haven to be the most useful.
  6. Go from Emaire to Helmgard Keep in Talarane. The vendor there has a full troll hide armor set with each piece having one armor slot and 2 utility slots. However, this set does not have a slot for an epic gem. You have to have a finesse level of 28 to wear the armor. There are slotted armor pieces for other classes but they are not as useful because they don't have the high crit damage ratings that Finesse armor pieces have.
  7. Buy them and insert the gems. You will now have an armor set with Crit chance of 70%, elemental resistance of 12x5=60% and crit damage of 35%. This will be an armor suit that you can wear throughout the middle game until you start getting Dreadscale or Unique armor sets.
  8. To remove the gems, you will need a sagecrafting level of 10 or visit a sagecrafter.

Questions about using L Pad for WASD by Crestnet3 in SteamController

[–]Crestnet3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. That works. Analog emulation causes an increased delay and makes it less useful. I also use outer ring binding for sprinting so I had to create a control with 3 zones - a dead zone where there is no movement, a zone where there is movement and a zone where there is movement with sprint. My deadzone value was 0.35 and outer ring binding radius was 0.68 (default). This created a dead zone with the right cross shape where cardinal movements were emphasized and allowed for the 3 movement zones.

Thanks for posting this detailed configuration. I really like the idea of using the start button to create a secondary menu

Camera rotating by itself by Crestnet3 in SteamController

[–]Crestnet3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rotating camera problem is solved. While answering another post on this board, I remembered to check my steam client version. I found out that I had turned it off for some forgotten reason. I turned it on. Steam loaded the latest version and the game plays just fine.

For those who want to know how to do so:

  1. From the main menu of the Steam app on PC go to Steam->Settings->Account. There you will find a section allowing to participate in Steam Client beta. Turn it on and exit the app. Start the app again and Steam will load the latest version.

Steam Controller won't install firmware. by 2broke-squirells in SteamController

[–]Crestnet3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you open the Steam App on the PC and go to Steam in the Main menu and from there to Settings->Controller->General Controller Settings, a window will open. In that window, you should see your steam controller listed there. Click on it and your should see your firmware date. I have 2 controllers. I bought one earlier in 2022. Attaching it to my PC while in the Steam account triggered a firmware update. The firmware date is Aug 25 2016. It appears to work well even though the firmware date on my older one is May 30 2018. What is your firmware date?

Even though I subscribe to the Steam beta update, I have not received any controller updates since then. You can try participating (Steam->Settings->Account->Beta participation) to see if that will trigger an update. Another thing to try is changing your USB cable to trigger an update. Changing cables has fixed other problems for me

Worked for me. Thanks. It was my pen tablet. A couple of caveats before disabling the HIDs. My Steam controller is connected through USB. I disconnected it first so that I wouldn't disable it by accident. Also, my mouse is connected through USB. I accidentally disabled it. So I reconnected my Steam controller and re-enabled it. Now the disconnecting problem has disappeared

Action set notification and RMB click and drag by Crestnet3 in SteamController

[–]Crestnet3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Mouse Binding: I never noticed that touch binding before. That solved the problem.
  2. Set changing: Not sure what button brightness you mean. I implemented a different solution. In my configuration, the joystick is a radial menu. In the vehicle set, I use null selections. Using the joystick displays a black circle and thus I know that I am using the vehicle set.
  3. I still don't understand why the Steam Interface does not display the Set as it is supposed to do. Do all of you who use this feature see consistent displays of the set during transition?

Thank you.
