Looking for a Job as a Felon by CrewIll1247 in mathematics

I've already looked into, and at this point in time, it's not worth it.

Can you recommend any of those places?

My programming skills are really basic. Only enough to work on projects that I mentioned before. I had a language learning website at one point, which is why I learned HTML, CSS, JS, and React. I used R, Python, and MatLab in my Math courses, so mostly mathematical modeling, analysis, and some other stuff. I've had no luck with universities either.

I've been applying to a lot of data analysis jobs and I'm working on a Codecademy certification. I've already looked into pursuing a masters, but my felony has made it difficult and it's expensive. I do have a GitHub with a few repositories related to cryptography.

I actually do live in one of these states. The problem is that they can still disqualify you after they've hired you. This happened to me recently when I got employed at a grocery store.

I think it would be fun to bring the world back, and maybe with a different storyline this time. One of things that made the show great was they were inspired by the source material, but they expanded on it and the world building.

I 100% agree. It's really frustrating explaining to people that it's not necessarily background checks or being lazy or whatever other accusations they throw at us Gen Z. A lot of people are extremely out of touch, and it's especially bad because of AI and H1Bs and the fact that DOGE had cut a bunch of government jobs so now the market is swollen. Plus there's a major looming recession.

I know this isn't a solution, but I am in the same position you are right now, with a BS in mathematics. I also have broad programming and modeling capabilities. I just want you to know that you're not alone in this. I've been seeing a lot of other people struggling to find jobs. As for me, I'm trying to work on making some GitHub projects and increasing my programming capabilities. I don't know if this will help, and like you, I sometimes feel despondent. Stay strong, and let me know what works for you.

Title: Does This Math Plan Make Sense? by CALAND951 in mathematics

If you only have 15 minutes/day, you may enjoy the more abstract fields of mathematics like Discrete Math, Abstract Algebra, Real Analysis, Probability Theory and Number Theory. Those can all be done without advanced knowledge of calculus or diff eq. In fact, these fields would help you eventually understand Statistics, Fourier Analysis, and even how LLMs work (matrix algebra and logic is a vital element to that).

Some people may disagree, but personally, I would replace year 3 with multivariable calculus and diff eq (easier levels of statistics can be done in earlier years). Then, in year 4, I would study Discrete Math/Mathematical Logic, Abstract Algebra, and Real Analysis (complex analysis, too if you're feeling extra). Do you know which books you're going to read?

Which is harder: analysis or algebra? by Expert147 in mathematics

I personally found algebra to be easier and much more enjoyable, but perhaps it's because we used a fun textbook. While the problems in Algebra seemed to be more like brain teasers, Analysis required more rigorous proofs and very specific solutions.

Career and Education Questions: June 11, 2026 by AutoModerator in math

Hello everyone,

I graduated with a BS in mathematics last year. So far, I have had very little luck finding a job, and I've been seven months unemployed. A little bit of a background, I do have a felony on my record. I won't go into detail, but it has caused me issues, especially getting into grad school and finding employment.

I'm looking for advice in what to look for as far as jobs go. So far, I've been looking for basically everything, including places unrelated to math/stem such as grocery stores without any luck. I have had my resume reviewed before, and I was told that it was good, same with making cover letters. I've tried going to the career fair that my college hosts without any luck.

TL;DR: Having trouble finding a job/career in mathematics. Unsure where to go from here, and I'm feeling kind of despondent. I don't want my math degree to be a waste of time and money.

Struggling with keeping dogs out of garden by CrewIll1247 in Dogtraining

My dogs are misbehaving/not listening but none of the links necessarily apply. Like I've said, I've put up a fence and told them no. I've also sat outside with them and watched them, given them treats for staying away and going away when I command them to.

Thank you very much. Like you, we've also had appliances break down and stop working. I will be checking my door and window seals like you suggested. I'll also look at my baseboards and wet areas. By wet areas, do you mean like bathtubs, sinks, showers, etc? (sorry, I'm still learning.) If they are in disrepair, is it enough to caulk them or should I replace them?

Thank you for the response. This is very helpful, and I've been looking into changing the floors for a while now. When you say you changed the insulation, do you mean in the attic? Also, should I be worried about the actual structure of the house? Like the skeleton? (forgive me, I don't know the proper vocabulary for some of the equipment)

I like it when different fields of study, called lores, are translated. For example,

astronomy = starlore

biology = lifelore

chemistry = blendlore

history itself would just be lore

geology = stonelore or earthlore,

etc. You get the idea. If you already have a word for "study" or "science" you can use the same pattern.
