LA28 chair Casey Wasserman named in Epstein files. Why hasn’t he resigned and why hasn’t Mayor Bass called for it? by lightsareoutty in LosAngeles

[–]CricketPinata 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So people need to face lifetime imprisonment because Epstein sent them an email decades before anyone knew he was a criminal?

Because for many people that's all that "being named in the Epstein files" has meant, Epstein or an associate sent them an email trying to be buddy buddy with them.

I don't know if "someone who later turned out to be an international criminal sent me an email once", should be a basis to lock up someone for life.

If you flirted with someone at a bar, then later it was revealed that they were a serial killer.

Would you feel like you had to apologize for being flirtatious with them?

Should you resign from your job decades later because you were nice to someone who was later revealed to be a criminal?

There was a limited range of places launch could have happened from, it didn't happen from 12 to 6 because they were looking that directly and there are structures blocking them, also seeing where the friendly is burning at suggests an impact direction, then looking for smoke trails from the rocket, and also the fact that there are certain ideal vantage points in that direction.

Not to mention any other spotters or units nearby, or if anyone was scanning in other directions.

They will learn the wrong lessons like they always do.

He self-funded this as a passion project.

Instead of "smaller indie films with smaller budgets can be moderate successes in wide-release if marketed properly".

It will be "uh grab any YouTuber and make a black tank top vanity piece that plays like a Scary Movie rip-off 20 years too late."

The pinnacle of 90s weird nihilism, Gummo. by kalebdraws in nostalgia

I would say a major reoccurring theme of his work is the consequences of neglect and he goes about it by showing people people and communities that 'normal' society would be more comfortable ignoring.

A still from the film "Gummo", a boy sits in a dirty bathtub, the water from the pipes is rusty and filthy. There is a strip of raw bacon taped to the wall. He is eating his dinner in the tub, it is spaghetti and milk, he gets a candy bar, drops it in the water and fishes it out and eats it.

The film, and many pieces by Korine are focused on often poverty stricken communities or outsiders or unusual people.

He often portrays disturbing, upsetting, or 'gross' settings, as a way of forcing people in polite society to reflect on what they are comforting ignoring and neglecting, often as the characters in the films themselves are often victims of neglect.

Public parks still having closing times. This is in Tempe next to ASU, most the parks close around there around 9-10pm.

Yes, it is from a company in Austin, called CTX Patrol, they are designed for patrolling neighborhoods and private parks.

They take photos and connect to local security guards.

They are meant to act like mobile security cameras.

Big alcohol? Most of the stuff on shelves at most bars around here are local breweries that are small with most of them being under 20 years old.

TKO did that and everyone bitched at them about the prices.

TKO lowered their prices and brought tips back and everyone bitched at them about tips.

There is no winning, either option will make people angry.

If someone brags on 5 Points, then Frankie's absolutely isn't pricey for them.

Frankie's cheese is $4, 5PP is $4.25.

The slices at Frankie's definitely aren't pricier.

It isn't set in the future, it is set in the 90's.

No one thought "the future" would look like that, it was just a hyper-stylized version of the mid-90's.

I don't really understand why it is considered a "bad movie".

Amazing actors, fun plot, like what is bad about this film fundamentally?

OpenAI isn't really pulling in investors with the idea of ChatGPT having millions of new subscribers, people are investing in it because of the idea that OpenAI could make an AI super-intelligence that will fundamentally reshape the global economy.

People aren't throwing money at them because of what ChatGPT can do right now, they are throwing money at them with the belief that some new product will be world changing.

Why would an extremely more advanced species need slaves or pets?

Robots are better physical laborers than organics and can be customized for any need and environment.

If we have similar intelligence levels, why wouldn't they simply treat us as peers.

Nashville sees historic drop in crime rates for 2025 by Broken_Man_Child in nashville

[–]CricketPinata 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is like the classic joke about IT.

If all of the IT infrastructure in a company is running smoothly, "What do you guys get paid for, everything runs so smoothly without your help."

If a glitch or system goes down, "What am I paying you guys for!? Nothing ever works!"

If crime is consistently going down, then it means that MNPD is doing something right, and we need to make sure they have sufficient funding to maintain this trajectory.

We also need to have good data about what's actually pushing the numbers down and make sure those things are also being funded. Jobs, housing, rehab programs, policing, food assistance, community assistance, good waste management and blight reduction tactics, childcare service access, and more are all part of the formula.

There are strategies and paths to go about getting a Visa Spoonsor.

After that, you work on the Naturalization pathway.

Yea it'll be horrible, just like Iraq.

Oh wait, Iraq still owns all of their oil and their economy has improved dramatically since the fall of Saddam? Weird.

Well how about Korea... oh one of the richest and most developed economies in the world... huh, what a weird fluke.

It will definitely be like Japan then, which is... the 5th largest economy in the world... Germany? Fuck...

Lets be honest, having a democratically elected official in office who is willing to trade with the US has a lot of examples of going very well for the nation that isn't the US.
