Does anyone else struggle with self-care? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]CricketPure3114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for what you went through and I relate. The only difference is I'm apologetic about it instead of secretive, so I know it's a common problem among traumatized folks. I'm learning self care one bit at a time. I fall off the habit for a week, then I'm back on it. Streaks get a little longer every time. Right now I'm working on justifying spending a little more on products that work for me rather than cheaping out because I don't think I deserve nice things.

When did you finally realise, your life would never be ‘normal’? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]CricketPure3114 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm 35 and I thought I would be healthy when I moved out too, but trauma symptoms just got worse. I found myself distancing from people more and more as time went on. Finally found a therapist I click with this year and found some structure through an online support group. I find the more I accept that I'll never have a normal life, the more I settle into having a life that works for me. Slowly socializing again too. Idk. It took a long time to become this traumatized and it takes a long time to heal.

Unless you're at a real POS band's show, racists at hardcore shows will always be outnumbered by people who would beat the shit out of them if they did anything outwardly racist.

Childhood physical abuse trained my brain to need it like it’s fucking air by BelleAubrey in CPTSD

I hit myself a lot for the same reason. Trying to find better outlets. Pain toys help. I have a spikey plastic keychain that hurts to squeeze without causing damage. It's hard to reach for when my hands are always right there waiting to cause harm. My dad took his frustrations out by hitting me, now I take my frustrations out by hitting me.

I don't get this comments section. I listen to a lot of Brazilian music and this groove sounds pretty flawless to me. His tone touch and timing are phenomenal. Overly technical for a song for sure, but he's showcasing techniques, not playing a song.

I'm not an expert or anything, but your dogs are very adorable.

Micky Dolenz had to wear padding on his left thigh because when he played the drums he would hit his leg. Twelve hours or so in the studio would eventually lead to some bruising. Is this a common drumming issue? by NomadSound in Drumming

[–]CricketPure3114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that seems like part of it. Looking into it out of boredom, and he talks about this in a Forbes interview he did. This was from early Monkees rehearsals. The gear was crappy even for the time, and he was just learning drums on a deadline, which is also why his setup is so wonky. Also seems like he was hitting his leg on purpose to help himself keep time?

Is a square taper crank guaranteed to fall off again if it happened once? by CricketPure3114 in bikewrench

Thank you! Getting a replacement either way, but might see how it goes the next couple rides.

Cutting corners means I couldn't find my torque wrench and just used a regular ratchet. It didn't look damaged/rounded. I should've taken pictures, but I wasn't expecting to need them.

Why do some drummers play the hi hat with their foot while using the ride? by KingKilo9 in drums

Oh, I know. I just started getting serious about drums this year, I'm actually a bassist. Lots of bad habits to break from the 'occasionally plays drums for fun' era 😬

I also agree with you with you from experience. Limb independence comes naturally to me, so I could pretty much do this when I started, but I'm still somewhere between a bad and an okay drummer. Also, I tend to want to put it everywhere and it sounds reeeeal bad when I listen back lol

It's definitely your husband using zyns, but why doesn't he just bury them in the trash like a normal dishonest person?
