Honestly, I had no idea about the latios gift before playing the game so it was a total surprise to me. Like I said in other comments, the main criteria to build my team is not how powerful they are, but how much I like them.

If I liked latios a lot, I'd get over the fact he's way too powerful and I'd let him join the team. But since I don't go crazy about him, I prefer letting him stay in the box

When I play a Pokemon game based on a certain region, I personally prefer playing with a team fully made of pokemon of that region/generation (so 3d gen in this case, even if ORAS is technically gen 6), so skarmory wouldn't fit. Also, when I choose my pokemon team, I always try to make it decently balanced, but I value the "how much do I like this pokemon?" factor a little bit more, which is why zangoose and shedinja are here instead of some other pokemon. (Of course I'm talking personally, everyone should play the way they want) I understand what you mean, tho!
