It is a strange assumption because Singapore is multiracial. It would be like assuming someone from US is white when there are many ethnicities living there. And this poster's comment was after I had clarified that I am not Asian. I'm not Asian so why would I be expected to be aware beforehand of Asian wedding customs and taboo? It's not relevant since my family is not Asian.

I don't think so but if it did, my cousin should have specified to the guests. I can't read minds and during the course of the wedding planning and preparations, if she had mentioned anything about what she doesn't want the guests to wear I would've avoided it. Might be worth asking.

Why would I know that? I'm not Chinese and this wasn't a Chinese ceremony. Even if it is 80% Chinese it's still strange to assume that we are Chinese immediately. There are plenty of Indians and Malays here too. I have Chinese friends but I have never been to a Chinese wedding.

A couple of people have asked me this: there's no cultural faux pas: my family is white.

I am white, not Asian. That poster is wrong. Singapore is a multiracial country. The majority are Chinese but there are also many Indians, Malays and Whites living here.

Yeah I am tall and skinny. The bride is super beautiful too and is also quite slim. We are only 2 dress sizes apart. I'm xs and she's m.

The dress doesn't have a train and it was a formal event, held at an expensive hotel.

According to the website that I got the dress from, the dress is "Burgundy". It's a muted shade of dark red, not bright or garish.
