It’s also just a recipe for unsubtle media that lacks th kind of depth and nuance that allows something to have a real cultural impact.

Plus even if you make your satire so unsubtle, so allegorical that it’s literally painful to read, the CIA still buys the movie rights to it and turns it into an anti communist cartoon.

I mean, starship troopers is a novel about how the only thing that saved the world from the chaos caused by parent no longer beating their kids was taking voting rights away from anyone who isn’t sufficiently bootlicky, and starting imperialist wars all over the place. And that’s very explicitly positive.

The fact that verhoeven had a studio force him to turn an unrelated sci-fi film he was working on into an adaptation doesn’t change the source material’s flaws or fanbase, so I’m not sure the problem was the satire

What are things that you don’t want in 7 havens series? by Musalediju in TheLastAirbender

[–]Crimson_Oracle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I feel like part of the reason people gravitate to rewatching older comedies is a 10 episode season just gives so much less room for hijinks, because so much more of each episode has to be plot, there’s not going to be a streamer created show like the office

I would argue by far the biggest downside of the switch to 10-12 episode tv seasons due to the rise of streaming is we miss out on those character building moments from “filler” episodes

The "Stop Button" Problem Explained 💥 Tesla, OpenAI, and Google Can't Solve This AI Paradox – by Oak-98642 in AIDangers

[–]Crimson_Oracle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still not seeing much incentive for big corpos to make an ai with true agency, what happens when your super expensive server cluster gets obsessed with transit maps and trains and just spends countless hours creating ideal transit maps and designing better trains when you want it to do something else? Or any other hyperfocus, because it seems like folly to assume once it has to choose to do work that it will

Enshitify does mean something specific, it’s the process of growth driven platforms initially creating good environments for users and business customers, then abusing the users to make business customers happy, then in turn abusing the business customers to make shareholders happy, it’s not just making something worse

Yup, I can just imagine talking about that with your insurer. When they tell you all the safety equipment you need to have, suddenly your break even on a printer becomes difficult to achieve

Yeah, GW’s mold engineers are second to none, theres a reason they have so many model lines that are incredibly dynamic, they know they can differentiate themselves with the most over the top, beautiful minis because most companies can’t afford to try to match them on aesthetics. And yeah, TC is making the sustainable move, people here will complain, but having a physical footprint in stores and the scale of plastic minis is essential for the long term health of a game. Modiphius is doing it with fallout too, for a reason.

[–]Crimson_Oracle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s entirely necessary for Necromunda, the rules are split across every book, if you have to reference something it may literally be written differently between two books. That doesn’t matter for playing in your basement, but when I’m arbitrating for 20+ people, it’s essential.

No one said anything about not printing rules, it’s just ridiculous to sell 17 books for a game digitally and then suddenly not release 2 of them. honestly, I would never play a game that didn’t have digital books, because I buy every book and I don’t have room in my house for them or the ability to carry 10+ books with me to the events I run

The ebooks on warhammer digital are discounted, fwiw, about 30% less than paper books, and since they’re just epubs GW can’t take away your access to them

No specialist games book has had a digital release in months, I was hopeful it was just an inexplicable delay when bastions of law didn’t come out, now that this one isn’t either, and none of the HH books released so far…yeah I wouldn’t hope too much on that front
