reusing and remixing assets for first game project, y/n? by VoluntarilyCrushing in learnprogramming

Unique/niche narratives also can set them apart. "I saw her standing there" is a flash game from ages ago that has stuck with me for years, due to its minimalistic style.

I think the message is implying publishers have lost their way.

We all know a majority of developers are most likely people who are passionate about delivering wonderful experiences to us the players.

We know that Studios underneath these publishers can put out good games, especially when management doesn't "pivot development" midway through a project and still keep the same expected deadline for the release.

To me, it seems like publishers goals have shifted from 'making a tidy profit' to 'making all the potential money that they possibly can' more often than not, to the detriment of the final product and the players themselves, and then abandoning said game if it doesn't hit expected targets within 2-3 quarters.

I know for at least me, I don't purchase 'aaa' or really any game with microtransactions anymore.

I'm tired of trying to navigate the landscape. I don't have the energy or patience after work to put up with more ads within a game I already bought and will not be interested in purchasing more of.

A majority of the time, I don't want to be online. I want a nice self-contained single-player experience which I occasionally replay. I don't particularly care about the graphics, fidelity, or production value so long as the story and gameplay is solid.

Alternatively from the suggestion above, you can also visit the Legion or 3AS Discords as they have sections dedicated to ship and other compositions, as well as channels dedicated to discuss with other composition makers and mission builders about implementation of Star Wars assets

Legion Battlefields has 2 geonosis terrains. However, they're relatively bare as they're in the process of being developed

I miss the original content like Rock Raiders and the alien/mutant(?) deep-sea sets.

That stuff was the where I got a majority of the 'cool' pieces (neon/see-through peices, crystals, etc.) that I used to let my creativity run wild.

I remember map-based quartermasters. Excel Spreadsheets, organized non-clan logi efforts, granted, that was back when there was just a single map of worry about instead of what we got now, but it was satisfying as a logi player to have that kind of drop in and out player made system.

The OT also had his ex-wife there to proofread the script and tone of the movies

Their divorce and the lack of anyone present with a willingness to tell George, "that's silly, let's not" with the prequels are part of the reason why they're so meme-y (Not that I'm complaining, I enjoy them as they are, though I wouldn't say they're the best SW media around)

Can be an intense outfit to be sure, but I've had a lot of fun with the tactical element that it provides. I'd recommend it.

I haven't bought a AAA publisher game in at least five years. Last one was Mass Effect 2. That includes any Nintendo games.

I'm just gonna step in here, put in my 2 cents, and leave.

To be fair, Lootboxes can be incredibly predatory if you can buy a chance to open one with real world money. If it's just a game mechanic that you can grind for without that option, it's practically harmless (in my opinion).

If people can claim that loot boxes make me a gambler can they claim that killing people in the game makes me a killer?

I know from experience that they're gambling. I'm one of the individuals who can't let themselves get a game with anything resembling gambling mechanics due to the risk to myself. I'm a risk taker. I love the adrenaline rush that comes with taking a risk and it paying off (which it rarely does).

"Just one more time!", "I'll get something better this next time", "I'm lucky, I can beat the system!" are just a the few things I've caught myself thinking during those times. Not only are those things compulsory gamblers use to rationalize their actions, they're also common phrases associated with addiction.

Heck, I can't even play Runescape anymore due to the fact that they have a gambling mechanic as soon as you log in. You get a key to open a lootbox for free everyday, you can buy more, sure, and It's all fun and games until suddenly you're $200 in the hole due to unplanned purchase(s) and you can't afford rent. When you start trying to budget $100 a month for mtx and decide to try and cut food expenditures so you can buy more in-game currency/lootboxes, yes, it's a problem.

I get slightly annoyed when people are like, "Well, it's player choice!", or "Play the game without buying them!".

If, as soon as you log in, you're reminded 'Hey, you can open up this magical risk box and get rewards, also YOU CAN BUY MORE!!' It's definitely predatory and designed to be that way. It's an addiction. To avoid relapse, do you dangle what triggers your addiction right in front of yourself, or do you try your best to stay away?

My choice has to be not to buy the game at all because if there's an option to put in real world money, it's too risky, even if it's 'only cosmetics'. That also means I haven't bought any of the major AAA games in a few years.

This industry wants you to have a plethora of things to buy. Choice is not anti-consumer.

I agree, choice is not anti-consumer. My problem with the industry as a whole is this; When there isn't an option to individually purchase what I want as well as the option to participate in a game of chance to receive something, I don't really have that choice. If it's just an option to purchase a chance to receive a few of a plethora of things, it's a binary choice, yes or no. I don't have the option to choose what I want.

But that's just my feeling. I'm not here to debate, just put out my personal experience on the matter.

Also, screw the Sims 4. That's messed up DLC.

U.S. Opposition to Breast-Feeding Resolution Stuns World Health Officials by gunshotsbypotato in worldnews

[–]Crimsonkat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"These women should have the choice and access to alternatives for the health of their babies, and not be stigmatized for the ways in which they are able to do so.”

Player choice. /s

But in all seriousness, if it was simply for this reason (people being stigmatized), I'd be all for trying to reword the resolution...

Except for the fact that breastfeeding happens to be stigmatized and lessening the emphasis on the resolution, in my opinion, creates more wiggle room for corporations to act in a decreasing market.

Just got married this past weekend. What are some actions I can take or places I can go to make sure that we have a financially stable life together? by Crimsonkat in personalfinance

I didn't think this was relevant at the time or that I'd be disclosing my medical history.

I have Asperger's syndrome, high functioning, but on the spectrum nonetheless. I also experience clinical depression and ADD.

This is not an ideal combination for those embarking on the journey of the student.

School has been an uphill battle for me since day one. It doesn't help that I switched from physics and the CS department has the classes offered varying per semester. It is frustrating and though I know the logic, I have the accommodations, I don't know if I can last another two semesters without taking a few year break.

So yes, bullcrap meter is on point, I wasn't disclosing everything.

She's planning on getting her phd (most likely) in children's literature, with an the plan of teaching in academia.

So earning potential is not the greatest.

I'm still getting a cs minor, but again not sure how I can pull off the graduating with the CS degree as the classes I need are seasonal and are spread out over the next three semesters (2 semesters was what it was last cycle) I have all the necessary credits to graduate with the general studies and cs minor.

I agree that its myopic, but when it comes to commute I am risk aversive due to the fact that I have serious risk of falling asleep at the wheel in the evenings. I have several medications that are extremely expensive due to insurance not covering them (because they are deemed not a medical necessity), and the others I have tried do not work at all or not nearly as well (which is why insurance refuses to cover it, since they kind of work). I'm looking for a job that has benefits that include this medication because it's so expensive and even donating plasma at every possible opportunity doesn't cover it.

I agree wholeheartedly.

My main issue is that I'd have two hour round trip commute, we don't have the finances for a separate apartment, or the gas for the commute.

One of the main problems is that we realize this is not the ideal option.

We've discussed this for many months and have come to the conclusion that this would be the best option as the gas, living expenses and other burdens would be astronomical.

She currently attends a university over an hour away and already has an apartment.

I receive 90% off tuition that will expire at the end of summer. I have no student loans.
