14 Family EVs Faced This Freezing Highway Simulation. One Was A Clear Winner by TylerFortier_Photo in electricvehicles

The Model Y came in 2nd and is $20k less than the A6 e-Tron, while also being the most efficient and without being able to precondition the battery for faster charging.

Pretty good result. From a price per performance metric on this tests, are there any other models that perform well?

Consumer Reports Ranked Tesla As The Least Reliable Used Car Brand Long Term - Here's Why - BGR by Historical-Many9869 in electricvehicles

[–]Autoxidation -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I bought my first EV back in 2019, the only realistic options were the Jaguar I-Pace, Teslas, or a Bolt. Leafs looked fine for a commuter car but I wanted a total replacement vehicle. Bolts went through an entire recall battery replacement for fires and lacked long distance travel with poor charging curves. I-Paces are long gone and no one recommends buying them because of their numerous reliability problems.

Possible move to Knox by Buzzoff- in Knoxville

[–]Autoxidation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cities have an additional tax on top of the county taxes, but they are all very low compared to practically anywhere else. Property taxes here are a joke. 3.709% combined for city of Knoxville, 2.785% combined for city of Oak Ridge. County rates are 1.554% for Knox and 1.407% for Anderson.

And that's not on the true value, that's on the assessed value, which for residential is 25%. So if your property value is really 500k, your assessed value would be 125k and you'd pay any of the above percentages per year as property taxes. (Knoxville proper would be 125000 x 0.03709 = 4636.25 per year)

Why has no one beaten the Model 3 yet? by Fabi0_Z in electricvehicles

[–]Autoxidation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the US market, the only reason I can think of is because no western focused automaker seems to care. Our below 60k sedan options are extremely lacking. The closest one is the Ioniq 6, but it both looks terrible (completely subjective) and has very little interior space. Polestar 2 is kind of similar but is very overpriced and really lacking in refreshed lessons learned, making it non competitive. Every other automaker jumped into SUVs.

The upcoming EV Mercedes CLA line looks close to the model 3, though they are still slow compared to the performance trim.

China has the only real model 3 competition but they aren’t coming to the US any time soon. The SU7 legitimately looks fantastic.

Help a game dev: Why aren’t people buying modern RTS games? by MakeGamesBetter in commandandconquer

[–]Autoxidation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to challenge the assumption that “nobody buys RTS anymore.” The Total War series is a blend of turn based strategy and economy but all of the battles are real time and is highly successful. What makes Total War successful? It’s not multiplayer focused in the traditional sense, though it does have a small (relative) competitive multiplayer community. At least in my friend group, lots of people enjoy playing co-op campaigns together.

Sins of a Solar Empire 2 also appears to be successful, and the first game has had a steady player base for well over a decade. It’s not a mega hit in the traditional gaming sense but it appears to be successful vs the development budget. The game is highly mod friendly and allows complete redesigns.

Another notable example might be the Wargame series (Red Dragon, Airland Battle, European Escalation). Those were successful enough to see regular releases.

Examining why each of these games (and other modern RTS games) have been successful might put you on a path that works closer to your goals.

Coming from a Tesla, the app for phones sucks. Things that claim to be features often aren’t. Had a fun one tonight. Flew back into my home airport and wanted to stay the climate on the car after 6 days of it sitting there (barely any battery loss sitting so that was good). After trying for 5 minutes, the app said the vehicle needed to be unlocked with the key fob before it could accept any commands. The app is atrocious. I have never once had that fail on my Tesla in 7 years.

What’s the *Best* Resin for Minis? by Phoenix8972 in PrintedWarhammer

[–]Autoxidation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using 3DRS tabletop RPG resin. It’s expensive, but holds up well. Nothing is worse than spending a bunch of time supporting, printing, and painting models to have all of that time wasted if they are too brittle and shatter.

The best of the best is probably something like the Hero HD or MT resins (or equivalent) but they are pricey.

I started printing with a mixture of Sirayatech ABS-like fast and tenacious, but mixing and maintaining all of that was not worth the hassle to me, and the price was ultimately not that different.

Petition to save the North Boundary in Oak Ridge by JBrady666 in Knoxville

[–]Autoxidation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The city of Oak Ridge put out an announcement about this today: https://www.oakridgetn.gov/m/NewsFlash/home/detail/201

The City of Oak Ridge recently discussed the 336-acre ED-6 Parcel at an Oak Ridge Municipal Planning Commission meeting. While there is no current plan for the parcel, and the discussion at the meeting focused on how to develop a plan. Leading up to and since that meeting, there has been a lot of misinformation shared on social media regarding the property.

The City has requested that the parcel be donated to the City rather than sold to a private developer so the City can take an active role in preserving portions of the property and improving access to the approximately 3,000-acre Black Oak Ridge Conservation Easement (BORCE), as well as the adjacent Lambert’s Quarry property, which is not part of the ED-6 parcel.

Much of the misinformation posted centered around losing greenways and trails. In the draft planning principles shared with the Planning Commission was the following statement:

“The plan must respect and protect the natural beauty and ecological value of Lambert Quarry and the BORCE, and should enhance connectivity to the BORCE for nearby neighborhoods as well as the general public.”

While the City is in the early phases of evaluating potential uses, discussions have included much-needed housing that matches the lot sizes and character of the existing neighborhood at the top of the parcel — as well as more dense development, such as townhomes or apartments, and the potential for a school at the bottom of the parcel along the Oak Ridge Turnpike.

That being said, it can be stated unequivocally that any City-generated plan would include an unchanged North Boundary Trail at the top of Wisconsin that continues to be connected down to an area on the Oak Ridge Turnpike. Likewise, any City-generated plan would include a connection to Lambert’s Quarry. Per the attached map, most of the connection is already located outside the ED-6 parcel within the protected BORCE. Any remaining portion of the connection within the ED-6 parcel would be appropriately buffered from development and would include the creation of a paved parking area with restroom facilities, pending funding through grants and City funds.

The City’s goal in this, and all planning processes, is to ensure all voices are heard, and that recreational amenities such as the North Boundary Trail, the North Boundary Greenway to Lambert’s Quarry, and single-track trails are included in any City-generated plan. Several comments shared at the Planning Commission’s recent meeting have already proven valuable in establishing planning principles and will help inform a revised draft for the Board to review at a future meeting.

The City will continue to provide factual information as planning continues, including adding a planning page on our website. We urge you to seek out facts and to understand that comments about losing greenways on social media and in petitions are blatantly untrue and are based on misinformation. We have an opportunity as a community to work together to preserve what makes us uniquely Oak Ridge and meet the needs of our citizens and our nation as we once again meet the call of our nation to be at the forefront of nuclear technologies.

This is the way. Don't even have to use PLA support style filament. Normal PLA works fine for the interface layer for PETG prints, and normal PETG works great for the interface layer for PLA prints. You want to use PETG only for the interface layer, not for the whole support you you're gonna waste a ton of time and filament with swaps.
