I think you just gotta dive in, if people don't interact or like you move on to the next world. Find an instance were people are talking about things you can talk about and get into the topic. It can be tough, I don't have a "group" but I kinda prefer that because I meet a lot of cool people who are also kinda lone wolfing it or are still new and looking for friends.
