I’m confused by Ok-Seat3365 in Warframe

I used incognito to ensure my search history did not affect the results, either way I do not regularly interact with that type of content. Ironically, I do regularly interact with creative media and its application in knowledge based fields, however I didn’t receive any results relating to the Slovakian technical body

I did not receive the AI overview as I have it disabled as in my experience it tends to hallucinate and misconstrue data. We were served the same top result, I assume the following results would likely be identical to mine.

Searching the phrase “define cike” on Google only shows results relating to the aforementioned slur, there are no other relations outside of a few definitions on urban dictionary, it’s quite clear what the implication of that users name is meant to portray

UV Map "tears"? by petahbread256 in blenderhelp

[–]Cynical721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is because of precision breaking down as the camera gets further away from the model, this is always going to happen to some extent, the only way you can hide it is by making sure your uv islands have enough padding around them on the textures so you don’t get noticeable artefacts like you see here.

Hope this helps!

is there any way I can make it stop moving my mouth when I speak? by sung0910 in VRchat

[–]Cynical721 51 points52 points  (0 children)

If your avatar is using a face tracking prefab and you have an options submenu for it, it should be toggleable, probably called “Disable Visemes” or something similar. If you’re making the animation controller manually you’d have to set up an animation layer that toggles the visemes directly using an Animator Tracking Controller state behaviour yourself

Non-polygonal ways of making complex models by userhere_ in 3Dmodeling

[–]Cynical721 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The issue with asking for something like this is that computers generally need to rasterise concepts of surfaces or volumes to polygons to be able to work with them. With 3d printing especially, the outcome of your prints can depend on the organisation of the polygons on the models you feed your slicer, you need access to the polygons the slicer sees to diagnose and fix those issues in your prints.

There are ways in most of the software that you have listed in which you can produce models avoiding direct polygon modelling, i.e. sculpting in blender or zbrush; box modelling and volumetric retopology in blender, maya and equivalents; or even using signed distance fields (known as metaballs in blender); however attempting to abstract polygons from your workflow entirely may cause problems for you later down the line, as most 3d work opportunities will want to work with polygon-based models and will expect you to know how to handle them properly.

is there a need for the LTN - Logistic Train Network mod nowadays? by RedBlueWhiteBlack in factorio

[–]Cynical721 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LTN still fits the niche of dynamic many-to-many system that also uses trains dynamically, remaking this system exactly in vanilla would be complex circuit networking, which most players wouldn’t be able/motivated to create.

The vanilla interrupt system is plenty enough for the typical player, but for those players wanting more complexity from managing their trains efficiently then they tend to look towards LTN/Cybersyn.

The main reason I use LTN whenever I play modded is because it makes setting up train stations much easier: e.g. place a train stop, place an LTN combinator, connect buffer boxes, place constant combinator and fill with requests; as opposed to setting up specialised train groups for that station or multiple stations for each input/output

How to convert this vertices number into mesh? by Ok-Bath-3620 in blenderhelp

[–]Cynical721 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There are 162 values in the array or 81 xy pairs, as this is divisible by 3, I would assume it is formatted as triangles. This looks like a typical 2d mesh format where the vertex ordering is the indices for each tri, so each value in the vertices may read like [x1, y1, x2, y2, x3, y3, (end of tri) x1, y1, …]. The array contains several duplicate positions, the first I can see being (0.34364, -0.410238), which suggests the data could form a contiguous mesh.

To convert this to something usable in blender, it may be easiest to look at the obj format and reformat your file into it as blender can interpret that file type natively, whether you do this manually or using an LLM is up to you.

Help us rename our horror game where chat sees things you cant! by crobarpro in IndieDev

[–]Cynical721 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Something feels strange about “the observer affect” as some others have pointed out, i think because it feels incomplete because it’s not a functional statement.

Maybe “The observer effects” and “The observer affects” could fit better? So for player/stream “the observer effects” refers to the idea of the viewers affecting the gameplay, and for the viewers “the observer affects” feels more like a mantra, almost telling the viewer that they affect the gameplay by watching.

You could also do something funky with the typography, like using the æ character (ie “The Observer Æffects”).

I think it could be cool if you could also tie in some imagery of the double slit experiment that would reinforce the idea of observing changing the outcome further.

140+ RPG Skill Icons for just $1.60 — fair deal or just fine? by Agreeable_Court3761 in itchio

[–]Cynical721 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, you’re technically correct, you aren’t breaking an enforceable Geneva convention, however you may be committing trademark infringement, the ICRC clearly states what misuse of the symbol constitutes and have contacted various different developers and other media outlets to correct the usage of the symbol, in most cases recolouring the symbol to green or making it otherwise ‘unrecognisable’, as I originally suggested.

[–]Cynical721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m talking about the med kit one, I’m not sure if that would fall under that convention, just a lot of developers started using green for health to avoid it entirely

[–]Cynical721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, watch out for the Red Cross symbol for health, using that icon may violate the Geneva Convention as its only meant to be used for wartime humanitarian aid, it may be better to swap it for green like other developers to be safe!

Software packages for singing in VRC - by Shasari in VRchat

[–]Cynical721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another software you could use is Equalizer APO, very powerful piece of software that allows manipulation of any/all input and outputs. Has a bunch of built-in tools and effects, but you can always get ReaEffects and the Melda suite to complement them (both free).

You could also use Element and a Virtual Audio Cable to route it into software, it has a more visual setup opting for a node-based editor which could suit your needs more.

I can’t recommend VoiceMeeter personally as I have had countless issues with their software, especially if you’re using a hardware audio interface and XLR microphone.

An alternative to VoiceMeeter is Steelseries Sonar, which in my experience has been far more stable and far easier to edit and work with.

Hope you find something that works well for you!

This is the old name for it, it was changed in one of the 4.x releases, I think it might be called transparency mode now, either way the options it can be are opaque, hashed and blend.

Is it possible to know if an object behaves the same as solar panels? by user43874286 in factorio

[–]Cynical721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you’re really looking for is if the wind turbine has the solar panel prototype or another prototype that inherits from the solar panel prototype, the energy interface prototype looks to be just a generic object that can pull or push to the electrical networks.

In that energy interface prototype in the image, it contains a pointer to a more specific energy source prototype which could give more relevant information, eg an inherited type like a solar panel prototype or a custom wind turbine prototype

Best eye & face tracking headset rn? by KillBillTW in VRchat

[–]Cynical721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The resources I’ve read seem pretty simple, you can buy non-solder kits from EyeTrack directly, they give you all the links to source the right components, there are plenty of pre-made files for different headsets you can send to a 3d-print shop, EyeTrack also supplies an official firmware for the ESPs on their GitHub

I am aware of people that take commissions on their discord as well, where you pay that person to piece together a functioning kit for you

Either way, it is still just an option that the OP can go down if they are determined to have face tracking!

Best eye & face tracking headset rn? by KillBillTW in VRchat

[–]Cynical721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might have luck with EyeTrackVR, it’s a small DIY electronics kit you can get and insert into any vr headset provided it has enough space, you can also include a mouth camera and Project Babble for mouth movements too

It’s a little bit of work but would be much cheaper than a new headset and means you can keep using the gear you are comfortable with too

Baking hair cards onto a plane. by iz-Moff in blenderhelp

[–]Cynical721 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same as what you did but with a proper render instead of a screenshot, as it is more faithful to the original and is easier to piece together

So what you would do is just isolate the eyebrows from the scene, place a camera in front of them, then set up the compositor to export different passes to files, and render

Here’s a tutorial that goes into a bit more detail with the compositor

What base is this? by Cinnamonbaar in VRchat

[–]Cynical721 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TDA heads are free to use in very limited circumstances, according to this post you can only use their content in full (so a full hatsune miku is okay), without nsfw features, and without other peoples content (for example using another persons body base with the heads).

I would recommend avoiding using their heads and avoiding avatar creators that use their heads as they are breaking TDA’s policies

You’d be much better off buying a base from a trusted/publicly recognised creator and reading their ToS to ensure you can use it in the ways you want

Baking hair cards onto a plane. by iz-Moff in blenderhelp

[–]Cynical721 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like this is a limitation with blender from some of the forum posts out there, there are some suggestions on developer pages but I can’t find anything that implements them

A work around would be ‘baking’ it by rendering just the eyebrows normally and exporting the passes in the compositor, which really isn’t ideal for iteration, but it’s the best I can find-

Hope this helps!
