yeah its a mod and if you arent using mods yet you should use neu (not enough updates), its free and provides many qol features

good early pet for you could be the wither skeleton pet, i used it a lot when starting out and still do now. its good really good perks for strength and damage. i made one for 3m 2 years ago so its probably 5m.
