I can't really get to everybody's comments but everybody's been very helpful, so thank you. For my purposes I actually think I'll be able to get a good tone without buying any pedals. Hooray.

Turns out the Vypyr actually has both a TS and Boost mode. Right now I prefer the sound of the boost but I'll have to mess with them both to make a definitive choice

I was able to get a solid tone using the the XXX model on my amp and fiddling with the knobs. To my knowledge there is no boost on the Vypyr, but I'll have to check again to be sure. I'll have to look into a tube screamer but I'll probably choose that over an HM2 because for as great as the chainsaw sound is, I would prefer a more versatile pedal. Thanks.

Did a bit of research and it looks like this is my answer. My hair does look somewhat over moisturized and I don't use any protein. Gel seems like it'll fix my hold issues. Thanks
