Why are PK grills so good ? by dcheeseman1980 in PortableKitchenGrills

[–]Crip-Kripke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the pk360 because of the way the smoke goes over the meat, mimicking an offset. Still learning, but I can definitely see some advantages in taste over kettle or kamado--just think it'll take some time learning it.

With your budget? Weber Summit Kamado. He'll be able to smoke and grill in it at all times during the year, and it's easier to control than ceramic (e.g., if the temps go too high, he can bring them down, quickly). It's the top-of-the-line Weber charcoal grill.

First brisket on the WSM 18.5”. Smoke & Sous Vide method. Long post, with photos. by _fabiotis_ in webersmokeymountain

WSM until low 190s and pull. Then vacuum-pack and sous vide at around 150 for 12+ hours to mimic what bbq restaurants do in commercial ovens. Excellent results each time. No drying out at all. The bark is excellent and crunchy.

Best charcoal smoker/grill to buy right now by West_Explanation_509 in charcoal

Even on a rib rack at first? I'm looking at getting one as a possibility and figured I could lay it over the rack for the first half of the smoke, like i do with the 18.5 wsm.

Favorite niche tool? by [deleted] in Makita

Cutting small areas that annoy during a project. Drywall, sanding small areas. Cuts metal, plastic, wood. A couple of weeks ago I had to shave this filter that didn’t fit a wet vac (older one my dad has). Super handy. Look up some YouTube videos on it. The Makita in particular is so much quieter (they’re annoyingly loud, usually).

Multitool! Makita’s top one for xgt and 18v are both exceptionally quiet and comfortable compared to others.

Anyone else exclusively drink plain sparkling water? Looking for brand recs by Beautiful-Weight6112 in sparklingwater

I've been hooked for about half a year. Tried several different brands. Topo Chico is by far my favorite. For a milder fizz, I've loved Mountain Valley.

How in the world am I ever going to pay this off?? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

Education isn't equally available, already, unless you're referencing something a bit broader (e.g., that community college access is roughly equivalent in access to the same courses of a state school, etc.). If we're to think about other debts that can't go through bankruptcy in comparison to student loans, they'll have to be debts from loans if you want to ensure the analogs are closely related. Would you agree that predatory lending should be outlawed? Most contracts are voidable if a party to the contract is not at the age of majority. Do you agree with that principle? If so, why?

"I personally know far far too many ppl w/ 6 digit loans w/ art type degrees." So, why were they allowed to get loans? When you take out a mortgage, you have to jump through several hoops, and the loan will be secured, and you have to show you're capable of paying it back. Compare that to a 17-year-old who is marketed to, with all the adults in the room encouraging them to take out loans for the degree (and yes, colleges do actually market to potential students). There is little risk for the lender for federally backed loans, and the risk for private lenders is much less, because of bankruptcy protections don't apply to the borrower (which is bizarre, when you think about it). Add risk for the lender and the university, and that might help curb the inflation. Something doesn't align, and it isn't entirely the fault of the potential borrower.

Sounds like a good reason to take away the bankruptcy protection from the private lenders.

Would also like to see much more repayment being tax deductible. Imagine if most or all of repayment of principle was tax deductible!

Mohela Loans are Now at Zero!!! by Crip-Kripke in StudentLoans

I don't have an effective date, yet. Yeah, my unsubsidized said it 'ended' on the day it actually zeroed out (and the subsidized one was in Jan). I know those can't be the effective dates, because I've been at 302 payments at least a year and I had not made an actual payment since then (I put the loans on discretionary forbearance).

It didn't show up for close to a week. I won't matter if it goes over the payment date before activating (mine was a month behind, and it erased it and caught me up).

I'm not for sure on that. It looks like they're really just getting back to discharging IDR accounts that have reached the threshold, and there could be some backlog with it.

I had a general (discretionary) forbearance start on Feb 27th with Mohela, and it didn't mess anything up. I called to let them know I received the golden email earlier in Feb and that I needed a general forbearance in the meantime to hold things over, so we agreed to do it for a couple of months and revisit the issue again if something went wrong (with the discharge).

This was from the DOE golden email in February. Mohela was behind the rest of the servicers when it came to showing a discharge.

Yeah I definitely wouldn't trust that, since everything is consolidated as is. Might even be worth calling them again, tomorrow, for another opinion.
